OK, this has been rattling around in my head for a while now. There has been plenty of discussion about which way to go to lift a 55 - SOA, custom springs, 75 series, 60 series, mix and match, etc., etc.. I tried some searches but really did answer my question. Why don't more 55 owners move the spring perches to accommodate 60 series lift springs?

Is there something I'm missing because it seems like that one mod would bring a Pig back into the world of off the shelf products. One person could document the process in a thread and then every 55 owner would now have a receipe for using 60 series springs. Maybe some view it as an extreme mod but its not what I'd call major fabrication work either. It would open up a world of possibilities in SUA lifts: OME, HFS, BTB, Safari, $OR, 2", 3", 4" and on and on. Not to mention availability of purchasing used 60 springs when someone upgrades to SOA or having double the market if you bought springs that didn't work for your intended purpose and wanted to sell them.

Any way, food for thought for the Swine faithful.

That's what I have on mine, shackle reversal with 60 rear (longs) on front and rear. My reasoning was the same, there is a great selection for 60 replacement springs to choose from. Right now I have 60 springs with add-a-leaf which rides like a hay wagon but someday I'll be able to afford something better (OME is what I plan) and improve the ride. I don't like a lot of lift but the current setup could accomodate 35's w/o any problem which is probably what I'll put on when I can afford them.

Twice in that reply I mention "when I can afford" :p

60 Springs

You know the guy to run this by would be Lance at IPOR, he's worked with pigs for years and it would not surprise me I he hasn't tried it.
I call him tomorrow and see what he says.

Lance is awesome. I remember when he set up the Rock Lobster as SOA. He used factory springs. We used to have a pig mailing list. It was a few years ago. Anyway when we were looking for springs for lifts there werent really any out. Just the heavy duty stuff from SOR and MAF. Then we had been talking with a guy in Australia that used to work OME and was going to custom make us some springs but that never came about. I did look at the FJ45 Old Man Emu springs and that would be the best lift in my own opinion. The 55 and 40 series share the same lengths in the front spring packs. It is in the rear that they are longer on the 55. My mindset was to use the complete HD OME lift from the FJ45 on the FJ55. Or have some custom front and rear springs made going off the rear 55 springs to your own specs from Alcan, National Spring, etc...
