5/8 Brake Master Cylinder on 1990 V6?

My 90 V6 has a 5/8 stamped brake master cylinder on it. I thought the V6's all had 1" brake master cylinders? Do I have an oddball, or did the PO put on the wrong size?

Will it be worth upgrading to a 1" master cylinder in terms of breaking performance?
