Do we want to post this under the "Trails-Events-Expeditions" thread on MUD?

and I'm missing this trip once again.....

Starting to look like that may be the sum total of attendees. According to responses here and at the meeting last night.

Jack

I was just getting ready to post up the question since I was not able to make the meeting last night.

Are you going to drive up the highway or past Smoke Creek on the gravel?

Son and I are interested in joining this week-end.

However, we're without winch and lockers would we be excepted on this level 1-2 run?

Forgot to mention - KE7OBW

Thanks,
Ron

We didn't get a chance to pre-run this one. However I was up in the same general area last June and it was fine. I an interested to see where the snow/mud line is. But regardless I have a winch and recovery gear just in case. Hope to meet you/see you on this run!

Up through Smoke Creek. We are going to leave on Friday afternoon around 2:00pm and camp at the Smoke Creek spot on Friday night. Get up on Saturday morning and roll into Gerlach.

You should/will be fine. Nothing too extreme. Welcome and we look forward to meeting you. Good to see another Ham geek.:D

Would a stock tank filled up in Gerlach and two full 5-gallon containers be enough for this trip?

My 302 gets roughly 12 miles to the gallon if this helps.

At this point, two of us are still a go.

Thanks,
Ron

I'll have my trailer...and my rig gets about what you get (or less when 4x4'n ;-/)...plus I'll have 2-20L cans too. We should all be fine with a top off in Gerlach.

Anybody care to guess what the price per gallon will be in Gerlach? I'm guessing $4.85/gallon.

You will be fine for gas.

I will only have an extra 5 gals.

I am guessing at least that for gas. That is why I am going to fill it to the brim here and hopefully only have to add a little in Gerlach.

Jack

P.S. Good to know we will all be getting about the same MPG.:crybaby:

Oh yeah: We'll be on simplex 146.460. No CB in my rig...

Ron, we waited until 0920 to leave and we kept calling on the radio, but never saw or heard from you, hope everything is/was ok. We will have to hook up in the future.

I wish we were camping at Smoke Creek tonight, the moon is fantastic.

You missed another great trip.:D And yes it was.:flipoff2:

I will try and give a full update later.

It was another eventful and fantastic foray into Northern Nevada. Wildflowers up high were about peaked! Very colorful at every bend. We saw many different types of birds including getting serenaded during the middle of last night by flocks of geese flying overhead!

Pronghorns were once again prevalent. Kept glassing for sheep but not to be on this trip. We were able to escape the heat by climbing higher than we originally intended as Melody Cabin was already occupied. But in retrospect I think it was better anyway where we camped.

Never without a reminder why I bring so much recovery gear I managed to tip the trailer over again......maybe I'm done with tipping trailers (is this something like "tipping cows" as Lou Reed once sang ;)) as this time it was the PS side...Feng Shui should apply here . Almost a year to the date since I laid it over on the DS side.

All this, of course, was Jack's fault! He just couldn't get his 80 up and over an easy little bypass to a snow field :D. So we had to retreat...to higher and rougher ground! Oh well...I think I'll post up to be anyone's trailer R&D/supreme testing department. If it'll hold up to me it'll hold up to anybody! A special thanks to Jack and Ron for helping with the winch over. Note to self: I need to watch Bill Burke's "How to Get Unstuck" DVD yet again to figure out how to shorten a winch extension line ;-).

We topped out at Fox Mountain today with a nice view all around including to the West where the snow capped Warner Mountains jutted out at us.

It was great to spend time out in the wilds and mostly unspoiled lands of Nevada with friends!

Top pic is from Friday evening at Smoke Creek where we all gathered to dine and camp.

A Black Rock 'shrine'...

One of the many types of flowers in full bloom in the mountains.
