A very large percentage of Dave's postings in tech appear to me to be promoting his magazine. Maybe I'm just a cynic.

well I find the info about a cut and turn to be very interesting but I still like the flipped front control arm and hi-steer idea even better.

If I had a magazine I'd be throwing teasers all over the place. Can't fault him for trying to promote interest.

We don't encourage other vendors to be quite as blatant with their self promotion; why would a magazine be any different?

Hope so or they should fire his ass.

Looking forward to the magazine.

Very true. Look at Scott Brady's history with his Expeditions West website. He did trips, posted reviews, got so many hits and so many opportunities opened up for him it's amazing. His Taco was sponsored and outfitted at no cost. He's now on a 14-day expo to Cabo! GO SCOTT!

I think there is a major distinction here. If 4WD posted up his review for everyone to read that would be great as others have done the same. However if he doesn't and this is nothing more than a "trolling for revenue" thread than I think he should take it somewhere else.

I do not see the distinction as his thread simply reads 4Wheel drive magazines FJ80 project pics.

The discussion has grown as it should, thats what this forum is for.

Lets loosen out belts a little and enjoy the banter.

well, between this thread and the bashing of MAF's lift correction bracket stuff, some folks here are not exactly encouraging new vendors to develop stuff for us....

That's one way to look at it, another is that if someone wants to design some suspension parts, this is what won't sell and they need to focus on something else.

Considering that these trucks are now coming up on being 17 years old, pretty much everything by now has been thought up and produced. It's going to take some thought to come up with a fresh and improved product for enhancing the job of lifting an 80. I suspect these products will be few and far between.

Works both ways, even though bashing our products sometimes sucks, it is also an eye opener. We always want to produce parts for the market interest. This thread alone has us switching gears for other products to come out soon. Blunt or not, we appreciate all input.

Oh and e9999, just for you, as per your reccomendation posted in an earlier thread:

...just let people who dont have a big lift yet decide with what they want to go with, then give their feedback on it.

If a vendor puts out a product I don't believe in, I'm not going to keep my mouth shut and let people waste their hard-earned money on it. I'm going to respectfully voice my opinion. Other people can voice their opinions. The potential buyer can sift through the opinions and decide what he wants to do. If I'm in the minority, I'm sure the buyer will see that.

In this particular case as I see it, MAF has produced a quality product for a good price. It was simply not designed for the specific activity of 'rock crawling'. If Joe Blow sees this thread, he should be able to figure that out and make his decision on which lift to buy (or not) based on what he intends to do with it.

That's what forums are for.

I think it's great to provide constructive feedback. Better still when it's done in a congenial way.

yup, feedback should be one of the most valuable thing a business can get.
new sub format for the site, eh? I don't remember saying anything. Your site is pretty good already actually.

Having met Dave and had him show up to support the local cruiser club in seattle I think what he is doing is fine. Maybe I am a little biased but he is trying to scratch start a magazine with a very specific audience. We are the audience.
Had his post been "Hey I have the mana a fre lift and if you want to see the review buy my mag" then I would feel differently.
Props to Dave and the staff on a good product and consider this a free plug.
Dave

All I can say is:

Has everyone threading seen the Mag yet? It's AWESOME! AWESOME!
I don't care where or how he posts and/or communicates with us Toy owners. Just KEEP PUTTIN' DA MAG OUT! :D

Tell me 100's suck. I don't care. Just keep more issues coming!

Agreed, I love feedback, expecially good feedback!

Sorry I thought you were asking me to do the sub-section thing. Must of been someone else, hopfully they will see this thread!

Well just to be fair and to compare similar lifts and to get the thread back on topic a little I thought I'd post a side by side comparison on my truck with a 4" lift.

My lift is not a kit but an assortment of odds and ends, kind of what I thought was the best of the best with some home made thrown in.

Basically this:

Slee 4" springs
MAF 30mm front spacers
Slee's DIY front pan-hard rod joint
MAF rear pan-hard bracket
OME 73L and 74L shocks
Home made caster plate
Home made proportioning valve extension
Slee DC front shaft
MAF 2" rear bumpstop blocks
Front bumpstop blocks are still to come, they'll be home made

The other thing is My truck has sliders which kind of give the illusion that less is hanging down as the stock brackets are hidden from view.
