The GY Duratracs are a great tire. I've been impressed them on the trail. However, the past 3 years of wheeling I have seen countless punctures, sidewall mainly. I would never run the Duratracs. They are great for Jeeps, however, when your putting a tire on a 7,000-8,000lb truck (built 100's), a strong sidewall is vital. I've seen a Michelin LTX take a harder blow to the sidewall without failure.

Really? Wow, good to know. I'm surprised they're that weak and still maintain LT ratings.

I'd say the Duratrac is a hybrid MT/AT. It needs to ride smooth, and have aggressive performance. It's hard to have a MT ride like a street tire, so GY put a thin sidewall on the tire to soften the ride. Like I said, great tire for a lighter vehicle, not a great tire for a heavy vehicle.

Gotcha

Love the Duratracs, E load range 275/70-18. Very glad I chose this size and tire, just perfect!!

Decided on DuraTracs in 295/65/18 for the Tires. Got them for $1224, but get $24 in eBay bucks and another $70 from Discount Tire as a rebate card, so $1130 total. Was looking at a lot of different AT and Trail tires and in the end this size won out over the others.

I did my research on the proported sidewall issues and to be honest I think most of the issues were on aired down heavy trucks punishing them on rocks. No rocks here on the coast, so I'm not too worried about them. I'm looking forward to trying them out, and if they suck then I'll just return to DTD for a refund. A buddy has some in 305/70/16 and loves them.

The wheels will be here Wednesday, Truck ready to pick up from the Frame Shop on Thursday, and Tires arrive Friday.

Now if I could only find a used ARB or TJM somewhat locally...

Great choice for your application, surprisingly comfortable and quiet tire considering the aggressiveness of the tread. Please post some pics with the new tires.

Yeah I'm looking forward to getting them mounted and taking them to a sand pit nearby to try them out.

Looks like I found a deal on a bumper too. Cruiserparts.net has 15% off the Ironman bumper right now making the price $800 plus shipping. TRDparts4u will also match that price. Just waiting on shipping quotes before giving the go-ahead. Looking at light bars next.

Planning to have wheels and tires on and a new windshield Friday then spend Saturday and Sunday ripping out the whole interior for a deep clean. I'll take pics of the tires, plus before and after of the interior.

Wheels and tires arrive tomorrow. IronMan bumper arrives next Wednesday. :-)

Wheels from a mud member. Tires from Discount Tire Direct on ebay. IronMan Deluxe Commercial from ACC. Just got the tires mounted on the wheels. Those 295's are TALL. Can't wait.

I think you'll be happy with the DTs. Just had mine rotated at GY last week and I'm around 1/2+ tread at almost 50k miles on them, yea!

I wasnt sure when the truck would be ready so i went ahead and had the tires mounted and just painted the wheels via sticking cards in the bead. Wheels were in rough shape. Started out like this.

Washed with degreaser and sanded with 400 grit.

Decided to keep the Mr T sombreros, so I toned them down a bit...

I can't wait to see this unfold! Nice job on the wheels. I need to pull mine and redo the paint job. 4 years of touch ups and rock rash, they look pretty bad.

Is the frame straight yet?

Frame is done. Should be back together and aligned tomorrow. They are in the process of getting it back together and will hopefully be done tomorrow. When I dropped it off, they were slow and estimated two weeks at most. 4-1/2 weeks later... I'm waiting on them. Good job though in saving the truck!

Ended up having to replace one torsion bar and the driver side lower control arm. Paid $50/ea for used parts including shipping. Had to reuse the lower ball joint and strip/paint the control arm (from Wisconsin) but it worked out fine. Frame shop total should be about $800.

Still have to get a windshield and then start the body work. Nice thing is that its mechanically excellent with new bakes, new steering rack, and fresh TB, Water Pump, cam and crank seals, etc, all done by Lexus via the PO.

Awesome, and the wheels look great btw!

Getting really frustrated. Truck still isn't done. Frame still has a slight bit of tweeking to do. Just found out yesterday that the driver side steering knuckle/spindle assembly is bent and needs to be replaced. Found one about an hour away, but they want $325 for it, complete with hub and caliper. Better than OEM dealer pricing, but damn! Supposed to be finished with the truck on Friday, and I'm planning to trailer it home for the interior teardown to begin. Anyway, in other news....

Ironman arrived today. :) It fills up a 08 4Runner, that's for sure.

One thing is for sure - it's well-protected. It arrived via freight on a large pallet with everything strapped down very well.

I'm digging the LED lights compared to the ones on my old ARB sahara

Anybody need any good pics of specific areas of the back side of the bumper before it's installed this weekend???
