.... back to the roots....
the BJ43 changed the appearance a bit, sprayed the front bumper back to the original color & she got her bumper boxes back,
we used for travels in the eighties & nineties.

Never seen a garage until then (1980-2004).... got one in 2005.
....the 43 had experience in all seasons... snow (salt) rain, mist & sun/hot weather.

Hello Peter,

That BJ43 is beautiful. I love this thread; it has three of my favorite things: Cruisers, old planes and steam trains. It just doesn't get any better.

Question though: why take the white part of the roof off and not the whole thing? They do that in Australia a lot as well, but here it is because everyone is scared of getting their vehicle defected. Same reason in Germany?

I (do ) did it my way :D

Old ghosty building , it`s a part of a former hospital, it was build at the beginning of 1900 and last used by the Sowjet Army as the largest military hospital outside the UDSSR until 1994.
After the fall of the Berlin wall no investrors were found for this complex and so they are rotting and rotting.....
Great old buildings by the way (approximate 30 miles south of Berlin ).

For Josh only ;)
At the " Deutsches Technik Museum" Berlin they have a large collection of old steam trains enjoy

Wow Peter, that railroad museum looks great!

I grew up in Colorado and my dad and I would do all the great steam train rides when I was a kid. We would also pile into my dad's pickup and chase the Big Boy 4-8-8-4 as it went from Pueblo to Cheyenne at 80 mph in the summer. All of his friends and I would be in the back of his truck with dozens of cameras taking shots of it under steam and then speed ahead to catch photos of it as it went under us at fly overs. Just awsome.

When I was flying cargo planes many years ago, I flew the Beech 18. This was the absolute highlight of my career. At the same cargo outfit we also flew King Air 90s. Everyone else wanted to fly the 90s, but I only flew them when teh Beech 18s were unavailable. I enjoyed the Beech 18 more than the ERJ 145 or the CRJ 900.

When I drive my Land Cruiser to work functions where everyone else is in new German cars, I remain convinced that I have the best car there.

Now you see why I'm enjoying this thread so much.:grinpimp:

Wow Josh ,
the Beach 18 look great  ( was one of my never fulfilled dreams to get a pilot license, now it`s too late ;) )
Beech 18 differences and modifications
I`m not so skilled with vintage aircrafts, but like them all.
My first flight as a kid was in a DC 3

never forget that.

.... btw. I never owned a German car till this day, is a bit curious I know. ;)
They build great cars, like some of them, but see them too often, so I ....... :D )

I flew the Westwind conversion Beech 18. This is the taildragger version with the PT6 instead of the radial. I've also flown radial Beech 18s, and while they look much nicer, the Westwind is much more fun to fly (I like to think of it as the flying equivalent to a Cruiser with a Vortec:grinpimp:).

I had a 1947 Stinson 108-3 which I loved dearly. One day I will get another one. I really think that the Stinson is one of the undiscovered gems in the general aviation world.

As far as too old... When I was flight instructing in the early 90s, I had a student who was in his 70s. His wife purchased a joy flight for him with me, and he wound up getting his private licence from our flight school 2 years later.

Josh, isn`t the age alone, the wife wouldn`t fly with me in a little plane ( Cessna or similar), she`s a bit anxious in this planes.
We made a flight ( the only time she did it) in a Cessna /island hopping on the Seychelles
Seychelles - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
or I made a flight with a helicopter over the Grand Canyon must do this allone she doesn`t want..... * and so I missed a helicopter tour over the vulcano on Big Island Hawaii.

Learned to sail ( 27 years ago ) & wanted to buy a wooden sailing yacht ... wasn`t her dream.
My other unfullfilled dreams are:
a) to live (& travel with) on a houseboat
http://www.reiseanleitung.de/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/hausboot-flickr-luiginter.jpg
b) to live & drive with such a vintage circus caravan and a traktor through Europe .

you can`t fullfill all your dreams, you must do a selection and so we travelled a lot around the globe with 4x4 and convertibles.
Now we discover Germany again ;)

You and I have similar dreams, Peter. My father is really into sailing and I enjoy it. I am not very good at it, but I lived on a 38' Morgan in Miami for 2 months one summer when I was in College. I loved it! I wuold very happily live aboard again... my wife, on the other hand, thinks that sounds like slow torture.

Josh

Hi Peter,

I love that factory paint color of the BJ43. What is it, the dark mustard?

cheers,

Joel
