Quality web content here. Well done.

Bodean, please tell the story. I've never read it.

X10!!

Ive never heard it...

Nope! I'll just say this, I've had 2 40's and should have stopped at one. Should have kept what I sold the first one to buy. Wouldn't have a trailer, tow rig or an empty wallet. NOW!

what wire gauge do I need?

ok loonngg Shush story for a simple question, here goes:

DUI is on order, but was fooling with the low tension wire at the terminal bolt (on dizzy body) while looking at points and it snapped off!. I cut this wire out and went with the wire from the ignition coil straight to the dizzy. Now it won't turn over.

I know the wire from the terminal bolt (dizzy) is low tension but is that 8 or 10 gauge?

My new DUI will use 12 gauge, which I assume is what the wire is currently from ignition coil to the low tension wire (they connect with a male female plastic connector (which is where the LT wire broke)

SO.....does anybody know the gauges of wiring needed from ignition coil to dizzy? I wouldn't care except that I need to crank it over to make sure I have the #1 marked for TDC for dropping in the DUI when it gets here  Manuals discuss hook ups and have wiring diagrams but I can't find wire gauge?

thanks for ANY clarification as currently I have a 12 gauge wire from ignition coil to dizzy and starter motor turns over but I get no fire ( I assume bc my wire is wrong gauge?)

I don't see how the gauge of the wire in a short run would make that much difference. It is not like you're using a 26 gauge wire to test. Put a thicker wire and see it if it works. Also, might want to test continuity of wire to make sure it is good. Check fuse to make sure it is good too.

well it has an msd ignition so im wondering if the higher volts has anything to do with it. It has 12 gauge or maybe 14 going in from ignition but to dizzy it only has 8 or maybe 10 (im unedumcated and going off diameter of wire) so im wondering if that's it...im going to check fuses and get some wire to make a relay....im putting my money on that...thanks for the advice charles....much appreciated.

anybody with a DUI......do you have 1 wire running from ignition to dizzy or two wires connected by a plastic connector? (ie different gauge wires) yes im still thinking that may be it......not that I doubt Charles but I had 2 wires and now with one it wont crank and literally nothing else has been changed so im clueless.

wires, electricity, fuses seem good so im kinda at a loss. Again it may just be the dang points and stock dizzy saying "bury me please ive done enough after 30 years"

I thought the DUI was not in yet?!?

its not in but the stock one was running until I broke a wire and I was hoping to get it running long enough to make setting the timing easier....and just for my knowledge for the future about what gauge wires work where etc.

also ALL 40 owners please register here.....https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/508972-how-many-fj40s-represented-mud.html

I thought this was a neat idea to "count" all the running 40s. Id like to see what we could come up with, atleast for Jackson, I have seen 5 or 6 guys on mud that are in Jackson metro that dont attend meetings...I am guessing with about 8 40s I can think of right now that there must be about atleast 30 in the area?

kinda cool
