Is there some trick with attaching the factory skid plate? When to put mine on and there are no captive nuts inside the frame. Which wouldn't be an issue if you could get inside there (once the plate is on) to hold tight on the nut. But you can't, plate is in the way.
This is the plate that covers the xfer case and tranny.
Am I missing something simple?

Don't know that I have seen a stock skid in that location but my IPOR skid mounts to the captive nuts in the bottom side of the frame.
I agree. Should be there. But they aren't. Don't really understand. I can see one or two of them having been knocked off over time but not all 6. Very strange.

You shouldn't be able to see them. Also it's easy to place the skid plate wrong. Look at all of the holes in the bottom side of the frame and find the ones that you can screw a bolt in.
Is there another way to put gear oil in transfer case other than regular fill hole?

The only reason I ask is because when I removed the fill plug tons of fluid came out. I always remove full plug first. So if there is only one way to fill it how did this happen?
The seal between the tranny and tcase may be out and it is pumping fluid into the tcase. They make a work around bypass tube to avoid having to pull them apart and replace it.

The seal between your transmission and transfer case has failed. Gear oil from your transmission is overfilling your transfer case and your transmission is very low of oil. You have two options. 1- tear it out and replace the seals or 2- run a hose from one fill plug to the other so that the oil can return to the transmission. Several companies offer a kit and it works pretty well as a work-around till you can find time to fix it right.
