I just became a proud owner of an FJ40 after so many years of what seem to be an unobtainable dream.

My 40 was imported from El Salvador. Documentation says it's 1977. It has a diesel engine. 3b? 14b? B? The only numbers i see on the engine start with (1b*****)
Possibly a 2F original engine?
There aren't any vin or engine plates on the vehicle. But the frame is stamped, and starts with FJ40*****
Was it originally a soft top? I have never seen a combination of the front door vent window with the rear vent window. It's always either or but not both.
Looks like the rear trooper seats are from a 45? but only the bottom part?

There's a lot i'm learning from this forum, but i still have tons of questions, hope you can help me.

Thx!

Jerry

@pipaguapique Welcome… best of luck working on your 40….that is my most favorite color! You gonna get some great answers and stories

Check the B diesels one this link

Welcome to the madness. Take a system (e.g., fuel, cooling, brakes, etc.) at a time and baseline it. Get confident its good, move to the next system. Many engine options should choose to move away from the 2B

This is great advice! Thank you.
But you’re saying if the engine is in fact a 2b, i should swap it?

Sorry, no. It is low powered for most. Someone posted saying it is a 2b. If it works for you run it and see. You might like it. If it craps out for some reason, I would not recommend spending $ on it. Parts are hard to come by. Use Google to search Mud. Mud search is not great.
