It will look like 2 tubs back to back with full hardtops. The "front tub" is currently just a pair of tub rails (where the hardtop sits) from the '78 I parted out. The pics above are the frame and tub of "Project Tetanus" - Jes' old project 40. We will have a tent that attaches to the back of it but the queen size air matress will fit inside the camper. We will be able to close up the trailer to get Amanda cool or warm quickly. I will have the 5000 btu window unit plumbed in one way or another. Sleeping off the ground will be nice too. It may look complete by the SCC, but I can guarantee it won't be water tight, so it will have a big silver tarp over it.

The tongue length is adjustable. The pics show the middle position. It can move in or out by 14". The front pin is tight, but not that hard to access. The black crossmember built into the tongue is actually Lenny's LX450's rear crossmember he cut out when he installed his new bumper. It fit really well and only needed a little modding.

The tires are dry rotted Buckshot mudders on 15x7 wagon wheels. I have a set of 4. The tires will be swapped to a set of 3 used 33x10.50x15 BFG ATs I bought from Cameron a couple years ago.
I have drivers and passengers side tire carriers. One will hold the spare and the other will hold the basket I built before Moab for 3 Scepter cans or a cooler. I have been collecting parts for this thing for at least 3 years. Other than a LOT of sheetmetal, all I still need are a set of '74 and up taillights and a pair of storage doors that need to be around 15" x 30". They will be in the lower portion of the front tub. I'm hoping to find some old tool box lids or even a utility box on the back of a pickup with lots of doors.

Any of you guys good with fiberglass?

Hopefully it will look a little like an FJ45 Troopie from the doors back.

Sweet lash!

I wish I was good with fiberglass. From what I hear it's not to bad to work with.

It's not bad but it's messy as hell. I've never done any work that needed to be perfect, only some floor board repair that was covered by carpet.

Looks like a cool project!

I'm digging the co-ops on the trailer wheels :D

Those are actually worth something on Crigslist since they are so hard to find these days....

Keep it up...you have 3.5 weeks

The co-ops are very cracked up. I'm shocked they even hold air. I guess they could be tubed?

New job starts on 10/3, so I really have 11.5 days! Back to the garage!!

Did I mention how I love melting steel together?

What do you do when you dont have a square tube bender? Cut, form, tack, patch, and grind it smooth.

The square tube sections will form the lower rail of a frame for the front tub. They need to match the curve of the top rail. Once the top rail, lower rail and supporting frame are in place, the lower floor, upper floor and outer skin can be tacked on.

Lots of fitting to do tomorrow.

More pics?

More pics?

Just one from Sunday. I dont know if the '74 tub is going to make it. Looking for other options. There is a nice '77 tub down on the coast and I'm trying to get in touch with a local guy that knows of a few parts 40s in the Jxn metro. We'll see what happens - cheap!

This is the lower front tub frame in place with body mounts, etc. Tomorrow I will place the top rail and vertical supports. Everything will just be tacked to the '74 rear tub for easy removal if something works out on a replacement.

Looking good lash!

Let me know if ya need me to cut something for ya ; )

I can't believe how long it took to get from the previous pic to the one below. The key is, everything is plumb, square, and level. That is a total biotch! Tomorrow will be a little welding to start and then the fun begins with the hardtop side panels.

Good news for Lash is there is an ex-surfer that lives in MS, me. I've had plenty of experience repairing boards as well as building speaker boxes for the gay rice burners that want sound but not the weight of a wood box. If you are trying to extend a hard top let me know. The key to building fiberglass panels is building a good mold. It's a real pita but it can be done.
