The advantage of having a full float rear axle over a semi-float is that the full float has two bearings at the end of the axles instead of only one. The two bearings have a higher load capacity than the single bearing, & also prevent the wheel from falling off if the axle breaks.

For the V-8 guys who can break differentials, many upgrade semi-float axles to full float axles. With full floats, if you break the axle, just pull it out & remove the driveshaft and it becomes a trailer axle.

The FF axles were never sold in the U.S. but they were in other parts of the world - Australia, Africa. BC

Sorry about not putting price - but you will notice two things on my ID "rookie" as in new and my name is Bill. Where in LA? I was born in Shreveport and used to live in Lake Charles. Worked in the off shore Oil & gas industry many years ago.

The axles I have coming in are 100% complete - hub to hub and 3rd member. 40 series are more difficult to get. The 60 series are 3" wider and seem to be popular with the custom cruiser shops around here. FF Axles are from '80 to '86 year crusiers. Expected price is about $1,000. BC

You should double check but I am 99,9% sure a semi float third will work with a FF axle. The front of every cruiser is FF and people often swap fronts for rears.

I have in-fact ran a semi-float third in a full-float axle assembly. It works just fine.
