I rolled the window down on my 87 4 runner and now it will not go up.... I have too much going on now to try to fix this as it is not my DD. is there a way I can get it up for "right now" just so the window is not down? like a manual way to roll it up?

Red handed!!!:flipoff2:

yea.... thanks for your reply on ORC... I never really spend much time in this part of the board on mud... seems the other board gets more answers quickly... :D

Thanks Jerod

you have to take the motor out to get it to 'manually' roll up. then stuff a nail or somthing in a hole to keep it from coming down. or stuff a rag inbetween the door and window.

If you can hear the motor turning when you push the window roll up button, then it might have just popped off the tracks.

It'll only take a few minutes to pull the carpet panel off, then the metal panel underneath. Then you can see if the wheels are off the tracks, and if so, it's not too hard to get them back on there. Pull the window up with your hands a few inches, then use your key to move the wheels up near the tracks, and pop them back in.

Mine used to come off about once a week. It got so I left those panels off all the time.

If this is what's going on, it's better to drive with it all the way up or all the way down, not anywhere in between.

The switch in mine went out along with another guy that I wheel with. Mine would roll down but not up. To get it to roll up I pulled the plug out and grounded one of the wires. One wire goes up when grounded and another one makes it go down once grounded. I also had to disconnect the switch for the rear wiper to make it all work.

ok here is an update... I tried last night to get it to work again..NOTHING!!!! I can not get the motor to turn on... I can not hear the relay clicking... My light on my dash comes on saying the window is open... seems like my switch is ok... I mean it clicks just fine... took the lock switch apart to try to clean it up.. lost the little spring in there (does that matter??) My test light broke so I could not see if I had power at the switches but I dont know why I would not...... did not pull the wiper switch but I think that is okay...

do you remember with wire??? is it one under the switch????

Do you know about the relays. They're located behind the interior panel, behind the driver's seat, bolted to the body. If you don't hear them click and/or notice a current draw when you push the switch, you may need to replace the relays. The relay assembly costs a small fortune from Toyota but Radio Shack sells relays that you can solder into place. Web search will get you that method.

I found a junkyard relay assembly that had this mod already. Turned out my motor was bad instead. I found a motor (and a spare) in the rear, driver's side door of a Camry in the wrecking yard. Works perfect now.

No way around it. If you want it to work like normal it's going to take a few hours. :)

On the other hand, if you need to jury rig it for now, you can try connecting a battery directly to the motor leads with the door closed. This will bypass the switch and relays. Be careful not to "shove it" too hard up or the motor could burn. HTH

yes those relays are the ones that are not clicking???? if my switch is bad would they still click... I am hoping it is in the switches???

When you unplug it from the switch under the console, the wires are the corner wires on the plug. I just ran a power light to it and grounded it. You will hear the relay click if it was a switch problem, if not it could be your relay.

Not sure if you tried this...But on my 84' runner sometimes I think it is closed 100% and it is not. If I push the top left corner it then clicks into a 100% closed position. If not closed all the way, switch does nothing.

possible to have debris in gaps between tailgate and body, check to make sure it is cleaned out.

That is all I got, Good luck

I will try this tonight..... I have tried to close this thing again and again and it seems closed... anyone have a pic of what the "closed" sensors look like on the tail gate?

When I do this do I just unhook those ones and no other ones??? or all of them?

All I did was unplug the switch at the connector and use somethign to ground it. That way you don't have to strip any wires or anything so that you can just plug it back in. I do that to roll it up because my switch won't go up but it will go down.
