Can I trash this factory Amp if I'm replacing my head unit and running a new Amp? I want to install these 4 inch speakers but need the clearance. Can anybody Link the thread regarding installing 4 inch speakers behind the factory dash grills...I searched...could not find it. Thanks

Lou

You can plug your aftermarket radio into the stock harness with an adapter, but you need to disconnect the amp. So yes you can remove it.

Trash the factory amp and you'll need to run new wire to the door speakers (if you weren't planning on replacing them).

Wait. What?

I am about to install an after market Nav deck. I know it won't run the factory amp. So I need to run new speaker wire? F!

I got the adapter from Walmart. Wired it to my Pioneer Nav deck, plugged into the stock harness & disconnected the stock amp. Replaced the door speakers with Pioneers & they work fine. No new wires needed.

Dont need new wire
Just make sure you get the right harness adaptor and you will have to splice it in and disconnect the factory amp.
It is easy work.

When you get the harness adaptor for your head unit it will all be pretty obvious of where the adaptor will tap in.
All I did was unplug the amp at the amp.

I replaced my dash speakers a few years ago. I put in some Blaupunkt PCxb 352 3.5" speakers with a 1.91" mounting depth. I removed the amp and had no problems and didn't need to re-wire my door speakers. Check the mounting depth on your driver side dash speaker. I think mine was really tight.

Same here, I just unplugged it and left it in place (glovebox).
