I’m looking into them a bit, and after reading 1000 posts on forums and talking with both guys, I think it’s fine to have the fan kick on with the pump, but I would strive for a lower temperature in the box. 180 seems hot to me for oil.
I have a lot of hydrostatic machines, and the ones that perform the best for the longest keep the oil 110 to 130. In addition the Mack trucks have a transmission and rear axle temp gauges, and the transmission will typically run 140 at the high end, and the rear driving axle will run 110-130, rear coasting will run 110 or so, summertime temps.

In addition to all that, I would double check running the tank into the top of the black box, I think it should be the fill port, with a way to keep the black box from being completely filled. IIRC there are seal problems along with overheating from being a full case.

All just my opinion though, no direct experience with the underdrives. I’ll look for those posts.
I'll look again at my thermostat and make sure it's in fact a 180° or less . There is a thread on here about that specific issue ,and I think everything is got to build this cooling system was based upon what I saw others do with success in it..... it's been too long since then .... I need to go take a look again. All great input, guys ! Thanks.😄

I took a quick read on that thread again and yes. They too used a reservoir. And yes, mine is also vented at the top. Seems like I might be ok. I just have to be sure not to fill up the tank all the way.

If you can maybe more pics of the yard, is that a camaro or corvette covered in Ivy/Vine ?
The rusted car by generator, what is that ? early 50's something, don't recognize the emblem.
I took a few more pics of that car for you . Hope you know what it is. Yes the one covered in vine is a 93 Corvette. I installed the engine and tranny from that car and installed it in a Grand Wagoneer

Ok. Today was a great day ! I did all of the plumbing for the Black box's cooling system.
That was straight forward and went smoothly.
I still need to find out the start up temperature of that thermo switch that came with the cooler. We used braided hoses and AN fittings . Came out looking really nice.
This system should work as planned. We have additional oil capacity, an in-line filter to keep foreign objects from damaging the pump and an oil cooler with a fan.
I will install a temperature gauge for the BB inside the car and a switch to be able to kill power to all electric fans in the event that I'd dunk this thing in some river .

I ordered some pipe to build a roof rack for this build. The 37" spare tire will take up most of the cargo space in the back, so I will also build some sort of a spare tire carrier and I'll build it so it leans down about 45° towards the cabin. If mounted as I mentioned, that will prevent the spare from blocking the view thru the back glass. More on that later.

Moving along. I could not find any paper work on the thermo switch, so instead of having to order a new one and wait for weeks for it to get to me, I wired it to a small bulb and a battery. Threw it in a pot of water along with a thermometer and put it on the stove.
The light went on at exactly 105°. Tested it a few more times and it did the same every time.
Safe to say that 105°is my magic number. 180 would have been way too hot 🔥 . The cooper's manufacturer claims a 50% heat reduction , so that's perfect .

I have it plumbed so the Bb is fed by gravity from the bottom of my improvised HD oil bag to the top of the Black box, in what should be the vent.
My Bb being the new version, it has another two ports at the bottom. One all the way down at the bottom which clearly is the drain, and another ,slightly higher. That's the one I used to pull oil out of the the BB , It will then first go to the thermo switch, the in line filter, then to the pump which will send it to the cooler and then back to the top of the reservoir.. The latter is vented to atmosphere near the cap.
We securely clamped all the tubes to the cabin to prevent them from getting caught by moving parts or burned by accident .
The reservoir is securely bolted in two places on the firewall. It's a WRAP ! At least for now. We'll see how we'll it doeswhen we take the truck out for a drive.

I think we finally made those rear corner windows fit like they should. This had become a nightmare. There is still a bit of work to be done to it but as I was hoping, third time is a charm.
Still waiting for the tubing to build the roof rack .
We're all talking about one thing these days. We all want to hear it roar .... I think it's finally time. This will make us work harder. Hopefully we'll be able to do that this week end. Can't wait !

Since I started mine I’ve found myself working on it at all hours of the day and night buttoning up loose ends. Looking forward to hearing it run!

What are your plans for a bed?

I have been following your thread and it is inspiring. One thing I note is the condition of metal as the time goes by. Some weldable primer and some fluid film would do wonders to preserve your work.
I have to check and see whether I can get that stuff here. Great idea !

Nope, could copy one but just open amazon, search weldable primer, I use Seymour PBE, ( IIRC its about 3 times cost of spray paint ), also can search Fluid Film
( Thats the brand name ) . I like the weldable primer because it is really heavy bodied so you can block it before primer and panels come out smooth.

Progress continues on the 4 door FJ 45 but I feel that nothing being done now deserves being posted here.
Since @ Peesalot had asked to see the yard, I'll take the occasion to show you the different projects being worked on at the shop. They're not all Toyotas and I hope this won't represent a problem for the admins of this forum. Here go my toys. Most belong to me , others to clients.
