I started tearing it apart today while on hold to talk to Bank of America's ATM divsions (bastids:mad:) Obviously I was on hold for a while since it was hanging from the chain fall fully assembled when the phone call started. Full gasket kit and head bolts will be at the shop tomorrow. We'll see about bearings and rings once it's apart.

The trans came pre-disassembled. Supposedly, the only thing wrong with it is the torque converter, but I'm not going to skimp on the cost of the friction plates and band when I have to replace the gaskets and seals anyway. The clip board has the Toyota FSM assembly instructions.

Transfer is all good, just a little dirty. Right now I'm leaning toward full time. I liked it in the 80 just fine.

Somebody asked why I would put a 270,000 mile engine in a car.

'Cause it's a Toyota.

Can't catch a fingernail on the ring ridge. You can still see hatch marks from the honing.

I might put bearings in it since they're cheap, but I really can't imagine there's a problem with them.

For you 80 series guys - Factory PHH and no problems with the head gasket at all.

Rebuild gasket kit arrived today for the engine. New rebuild kit and TC should be in tomorrow for the trans. Head goes to the machine shop tomorrow for cleaning and testing.

Got a kid on the sandblaster. He got the valve cover about clean. Gotta decide if I want to go with a powdercoat or bare blasted aluminum. Block will be black. Head, upper oil pan, front cover and intake will be bare aluminum. Maybe black with polished aluminum raised letters for the VC.

Well, it does show some wear after all those miles.

The machine shop came back today and said the head needed a rebuild. No warping, but milling will make the head nice again. A few valves aren't sealing well so a complete 3 angle valve job. Some valves have some loose guides, but it can be fixed with knurling.

The guy loves working on it.

The block is good. A little honing will clean up the bores. The rod bearings have some wear, but nothing bad, so new rods and mains.

Looks great.

Thanks.

Head came back yesterday. Looks amazing. Honed the cylinders on Wednesday. Crank went back in with new bearings on Thursday. We'll get the pistons cleaned up and put back in next week. The ring gaps were excellent. The missing bearing should be here on Monday so I can put the trans the rest of the way back together.

Like to hear you are back at this thing! Please keep it mostly Toyota for me. Not that I am a purest as you know...

More pics please. I miss it.

I know the feeling. I get all misty every time Ige posts a pic with the old white 80 in it.

Nothing to post except engine porn. I painted the block today and set the head on it just because it gave me a semi just to look at it.

scored the rest of the wiring harness on Saturday. It's a 94 harness though. I don't know how much is going to work with the 97.

Hope to powdercoat the valve cover tomorrow. If the rings get in we might start putting pistons back in. Picked up the missing bearing for the trans today too so I might get to putting that back together again as well.

Whew. Trans is done. Not a lot of things harder than doing an automatic basket case. I had it together and torn apart about 5 times altogether.

Motor is getting the head on. Waiting on CDan for timing chain parts. He seems to have disappeared.

Went with black powercoating on the valve cover with the raised letters polished to aluminum.

Body guy is coming by tomorrow to give an estimate on the sheet metal work and the paint.

Things are moving along.

Another late night.

Separated the body from the frame. At some point in the last 46 years the LV got a long range tank. That was pretty fun to get out with 40 gallons of old fuel in it. The extra spanky armor mounts were attached to the body mounts. Made it really hard to get the body bolts out.

The body guy rescheduled until Thursday. It'll either be on the rotisserie or I'll build a body cart for it by then. The rolling frame will stay with me to get new axle housings and the new drive train installed.

Head is on and torqued. Cams are in. Lower intake is on. Upper intake is on, but waiting for the injectors. The EGR passage was plugged solid. This thing must have had a P0401.

Fuel injectors are being shipped out to Linder Technologies for cleaning and balancing. Apparently, they don't just clean them and flow test them. If they are out of balance by .5% they go to their stock and swap them out until all 6 are within that 1/2 of 1%.

Exhaust manifolds are sandblasted and high temp coated.

Pics tomorrow.

Crap on a stick.

The body guy came out today. His estimate was about 3x what my high end was. Guess I'm back to doing it myself.

I need to get off the computer and get back to putting it on the rotisserie.

Gumby, I havent seen the bottom of that truck in 10 years!!That bracket was for another set of shocks which I believe I removed when I got the truck. The tank was put in there in the early 70's and the owner told me it was 50 gallons, but I never filled it! Glad to see this thing going together,I like the engine choice,if it moves an 80 it will do just fine in a 45. I will try to dig up some old photos when I first got the truck, still wearing its original red/white paint,it even had the landcruiser sticker on the tailgate. Could you by chance give me the casting number off the old 327,I might be interested in buying it!!

The casting number is 378280. That would make it a 327 from 62-67.

The stamped engine code is F0710HO. That would make it built on August 10th of 1965 in Flint, MI. It would have been installed in a 300HP 4bbl corvette with a powerglide.

The double hump heads and head casting number would confirm that.

I have a Hybrid 4x4 built TH400 and rebuilt case to go with it.

Shipping to Cali would be spendy.

Motor and three speed will be sitting on the ground in just a few minutes.

Got distracted by my new tow rig. If I would have found it before I bought the 1FZ we'd be looking at a 6BTJ-45.

Linder Tech called me Friday and said the injectors were done and were being shipped back. I dropped them off at FedEx on Wed night. Nice turn around. They do great work. about $130.

Waiting on parts from C-Dan to get it put back together.
