You've been wheeling?:flipoff2:

I guess not- I've several time been alongside the trail working on your junk instead of wheeling. I guess that is called- attempting to wheel.

Great lookin shop you got there too ;)

finally got it all in self etching primer. The roof took a lot of work to get down to bare metal, but it was worth it. Lots of pin holes all around the edge. No worries. I want to try TIG brazing. I've heard it's great on pinhole rust.

Gumby, Its crazy to think, but I have pics of this truck when I owned it and they look identical, right after I did the spring over and the olive drab paint job. I bought this lv from the original owner in 94,it had been sitting in his driveway for 20 years. The kicker was one of my friends lived next door and I remembered it from elementary school way back in the early 80s.One day while on the search for a 45 pickup I remembered the old wagon always thinking it was a 55 wagon. So I went by to take a peak and to my amazement it was still there, but why does it look like an fj40!!!That was the first time I had ever layed eyes on a 45 wagon!! He wasgetting ready to put it truck trader!!! I bought it on the spot.It still had the original paint red and white two tone and that 327 has not been apart in over 20 years unless Eric went through it. I have some bitchen photos spring over on 36 tsl on widened factory rims with hub caps and tinted windows!! It looked kick ass and couldnt go anywhere without notice.I am glad it is getting what it deserves and I thik Eric and I are both regretting selling the beast! It is still to this day one of the cleanest bodies with the original floor which is pretty rare for an lv. This lv was bought new at thompson toyota in redwwod city ca, now toyota 101. It has been to alaska and down the baja peninsula!! I have many more stories to tell...Great job with the resto! YT:beer:

Can you give me a rough date of when you'd be selling this to me?

There seems to be a line forming.

Apparently I have the reputation for selling my projects once I'm bored with them.

The 327 is really sweet running. I'd like to replace it with a modern 327 (5.3L) or a Toyota 4.7 or, best of all, a Toyota 5.7 iForce.

Any updates? (ie price for me to buy it?)

The latest update is I'm thinking of a color to paint it.

I like the dark green on the one in the classifieds.

I'm so damn buried with other people's stuff the 45 is still stuffed in a corner.

I did find a couple of engine choices - a 5.3/4L60E or a 95 80 series.

Looks great in primer. That body is incredibly rust free.

How exactly did you strip the paint? Sand blaster, chemical, orbital sander...? Looking forward to updates when you get to it.

I would have probably adapted it to a GM trans or gone with a LC trans to make the right side drop easy. The wiring would have been all Toyota stock harness.

however, i opened it up today and found three pistons melted from extreme detonation. I called CDan. he found the pistons, but no rings. List price for the parts is well over $1000 just for the pistons and rings. No machine work, no gaskets.

I think this 4.7 isn't the right one for me, but I'll keep looking

I think I can get a supercharged 5.7L iForce and 6 speed in it for under $15,000. Anybody want to spot me a whole lot of cash to see if it could be done?

edit - found some .020 pistons and rings for close to reasonable, so maybe we're back on again. We'll see what the machine shop has to say.

Oh man.....this is not what I expected to find in the latest part of this thread. Sorry.......so sorry to hear (sorry also at how you will be inundated with more "when are you going to sell it to me" replies". Nice rig...jealous in GA!!

I personally would not bother rebuilding a toyota V8 unless you do it a lot. not saying you are not capable, what I am saying it toyota parts are so expensive it would seen like a dark hole you could be pouring money down without a bottom in site. not like a chevy V8. I would look for a better toyota V8 that has no issues. my question about the wiring was: how hard is it to get the toyota computer to run the engine once you pull it all out of a stock truck. would you end up with a lot of error codes etc that would have to be worked out?

Hard to say. There's a Fj55 that I work on with a s/c 4.7 and a stock computer hooked up to a 80 series trans and transfer that runs well and without codes. I know its done a lot in OZ and the 4.7 is used in marine aps.

You are probably right about the engine. Right now I'm looking at being into the engine for about $1400-1500 and still needing a fair number of parts. Harness, gas pedal, MAP, etc. At best I can get the same amount of HP I can get from a 5.3L or 5.7L vortec that will bolt right up to the drivetrain I want.

As cool as the 2UZ would be, I'm leaning toward a 1FZ at the moment. The best of the inline 6s. The V8 was going to cost stupid money to fix. a 5.3 would still be a better choice for fit horsepower and torque, but it just ain't as cool.
