hello everyone. I am new to the site and looking for my first 80 series. I am getting ready to go look at one and owner says po replaced motor with one that had 75k on it. How can i verify this? Are there any stamps on the block? The vehicle is priced well but odometer has 370k so i really would like to know if he is telling the truth or not.
Thanks in advance
sounds fishy thats alotof work for a low resell i'm asuming

I searched and searched, eventually gave up and found a FSM on eBay for about $75, had to bite the bullet...

'91 FJ80 with a newly rebuilt engine. So far so good. I just bought it so I don't know a lot about 'em yet. The odometer reads 248,900 Smittybilt winch It doesn't have a lift but I'd like to lift it up 2 or 3 inches. Any recommendations on lifting?

3FE Checkin - white '92 still in great shape

It's been too long so I'm finally checking in with my '92 FJ80.

This is a California ex mommy-mobile (with great stereo) bought on a whim in 2006 with 150K miles (my first TLC). Not a scratch on it (then at least). We gave it a workout in stock mode (no lift yet in the picture--just the 33" tires), and then rebuilt both axles, added OME 850/863 with caster correction, full baseline, spare tire mod, etc. It's had some fun living in Utah, but now it is returning to CA full-time. I will never sell it.

(after lift below):

I got tired of being honked at for going t0o slow on the way up Little Cottonwood Canyon, so now I have a '94 (white California ex mommy-mobile) that has just recieved an 850J/863 lift and ARB lockers. The FZJ gets to play in Utah now...

Greetings to all-this is my first post.

Just bought a '92 FJ80 from a private seller last Wednesday!
172,000 miles
Location: San Diego, CA
All I've done so far is wash it, clay it, wax it, steam clean the interior, replace/check all the fluids, plugs, bulbs, and walk around with a great big smile on my face.
Today the window rolled down and wouldn't roll back up-first thing to fix, I guess.
Some oil leaking underneath (main seal, I'm guessing).

I have a lot to learn and am excited by the prospect of getting my hands dirty. Pleased to meet you all...

bought the cruiser 1 week ago, a 1991 white fj80, 159K, very clean in/out. my first vehicle that isn't a german car. cruising so far, and love it. replaced master cylinder, brake hoses, and pads. working to get her smogged with new O2 sensors, and egr components. hopefully some more mpg with full tune up(holy "S", 7 MPG?). very solid and capable vehicle so far, very happy with purchase. glad to be part of the mud haters community.

If you're deciding between 2 or 3" why not just do 3"? I found an OME 3" lift kit at man-a-fre for 799.00.

No. I had a reputable shop familiar with LC's rebuild it for me. I also got a 12 month - 12,000 mile warranty to boot! Wasn't cheap though. That tranny is a big mutha! Just make sure you have them replace the rear main seal while they are in there.

1991 Red 3FE LC

Finally bought my first Land Cruiser! I wanted one since I saw a white 1994 my freshman year in high school. I still want that one, but it'll have to wait till I can afford it.
This one has a lot more problems than I expected; I was in a terrible hurry to buy one and didn't see the oil below the motor at dusk when I went to buy it. Since its rare I'll probably keep it and just work on it over the years, but I will have to get a 93-97 model down the road.
I've had it for about 6 months now and I just had my first two big problems. Wouldn't run after it started rough idling; had to keep it gassed up. Turned out to be some oil clogging up the intake throttle fly. No problem fixing it! Now it leaks from some unknown position in front of the motor behind all the belts... I know its above the oil pan from simple tests and that is also as far up as I could reach to apply a paper towel... there is no oil in the radiator or radiator run-off tank. I'm currently seeking advice in a thread as I haven't seen anything for the 3FE on this matter.

Glad to be in this stellar group and despite the power complaints, I love my beast!

64 Galaxiemann here with my 1991 3FE powerd FJ. Lots of miles, Leaks some, and works on the farm...and works hard.....pull tractors out of mud with it. Thanks for having me..Alex
