The alternator in my 3FE equipped 92 FJ80 s*** the bed a while back. There are multiple threads on here discussing the 80 amp external fan, which is the one my truck came with, and how it’s gotten harder to find a good Denso unit over the years so I won’t go into much detail about that.
I’ve ordered several units from Toyota, rock auto, and the box stores. In my experience they send you a 90 amp internal about 70% of the time, something about the part number is messed up, even on Toyotas website they claim the 90 amp fits my VIN. There are a few differences between the 90 and 80 amp, mainly in their mounting points and the connectors. Some modify them to fit (many threads about this).
I recently came across something I had never heard of before, a 90 amp internal fan with mounting ears and a connector that seem to match perfectly with my OEM 80 amp. I purchased this as a spare from Napa a few weeks back and was about to send it back thinking it was a regular 90 amp with the narrower style mounts but noticed everything seemed to line up. I’ve yet to throw it in, waiting for my Rock Auto one to die first but I’ll update if it fits.
Napa compared to my OEM Denso:
I’m aware there are companies that still sell rebuilt/reman of the Denso units and am currently in the process of rebuilding mine with a local shop. I’m more so curious if anyone else has seen this before? It’s made in China which isn’t ideal but I’m always happy to see parts that can be had that still work for my old truck since Denso discontinued the 80 amp a while back.
