The alternator in my 3FE equipped 92 FJ80 s*** the bed a while back. There are multiple threads on here discussing the 80 amp external fan, which is the one my truck came with, and how it’s gotten harder to find a good Denso unit over the years so I won’t go into much detail about that.

I’ve ordered several units from Toyota, rock auto, and the box stores. In my experience they send you a 90 amp internal about 70% of the time, something about the part number is messed up, even on Toyotas website they claim the 90 amp fits my VIN. There are a few differences between the 90 and 80 amp, mainly in their mounting points and the connectors. Some modify them to fit (many threads about this).

I recently came across something I had never heard of before, a 90 amp internal fan with mounting ears and a connector that seem to match perfectly with my OEM 80 amp. I purchased this as a spare from Napa a few weeks back and was about to send it back thinking it was a regular 90 amp with the narrower style mounts but noticed everything seemed to line up. I’ve yet to throw it in, waiting for my Rock Auto one to die first but I’ll update if it fits.

I’m aware there are companies that still sell rebuilt/reman of the Denso units and am currently in the process of rebuilding mine with a local shop. I’m more so curious if anyone else has seen this before? It’s made in China which isn’t ideal but I’m always happy to see parts that can be had that still work for my old truck since Denso discontinued the 80 amp a while back.

AFAIK a Toyota remanufactured alternator is still available from any Toyota dealer, 27060-61100-84 (-84 indicates a Toyota remanufactured part)

That is correct, it even notes online that it is an exact fit, however it is the 90 amp internal fan. I even confirmed over the phone with parts before pickup and it was still the 90 amp unit. As far as I’m aware Toyota has discontinued remanufacturing of the 80 amp external units.

This 90 amp unit looks like it is a direct bolt on using the 80 amp mounting bracket. The only difference is you can only run a single belt vs the dbl. pulley on the stock 80 amp.

Swap the pulley.

It’s hard to tell in the pictures but it does have the double pulley. The warning label is covering it.

I spoke with a mechanic friend and apparently all the box stores share the same stock from China and just rebrand/rebox parts as needed. He has gotten “duralast” parts from Napa before. Still not sure what the PN is for this since the sticker is ripped.
