3fe Engine Maintenance

Hey guys, I have a 1991 fj80 with the 3fe 250k miles. I am replacing the rear main seal gasket and valve cover gasket due to leaks. Rear main seal requires transmission to be dropped/pushed back. Is there anything I should do for preventative maintenance while I have that off/moved? Same for the valve cover gasket. Anything I could also clean, replace or do to keep engine running as long as possible? Thank you in advance!

Valve cover off - Perfect time to do valve adjustment, check all the intake piping for cracks and delete air injection system if you can. Can clean IACV, check TPS and check wiring harness for burns/broken wires.

Rear main seal - Would also do the oil pan gasket with OEM 1 piece as its pretty likely to be the real problem and/or valve cover gasket leaking down. Driveshafts will be loose so its a good time to check ujoints too. Trans is out so fluid replacement and cleaning mesh filter.

I had a similar leak that got better by torquing the pan bolts to spec. Need to just do new pan gasket eventually.

Thanks for the reply. It’s definitely the RMS that is leaking. I have a transmission jack so taking it out myself won’t be a problem, not too much of a hassle for me as I got weekends off haha
