Onto the motor, I need to get this fitted up so I can burn the motor mounts in and move on with the front end. I'm waiting for a pile of parts, including rear main seal and pilot bearing, but I'll need to pull the motor for the weld anyways.

Yesterday I was all excited, feels like you've actually accomplished something by getting the motor in. I was tired of cleaning and painting. Unfortunately, there would be no welding this day.

The motor mount on the right side of the motor is different on an 80 series, not sure what Toyota did to the frame, but it looks like I'm about 3 inches short (that's what all the girls say :p)
So back to Ciarans yard to pilfer a motor mount from one of the many 3F-E's he's got collecting rust. This is where it stands today, I needed to start a thread to catch up, I'll try to get a bunch of pictures of the front end build (even though there are tons of threads on this) and the t-case rebuild. I still need to pull everything apart for paint/ seals and gaskets. I should have a few part numbers handy as well. Hopefully I'm not boring anyone to death.

Your build looks awesome thus far. I can't wait for the finished result!

Motor Mount Trouble

I'm having some motor mount trouble, I picked up the correct mount for the right side on my way home, but the mounts are still way off the frame rail. The mounts are from an FJ60, look perfectly the same as the 3FE ones, I can compare to my truck parked outside (Lili). I grabbed both the 3FE mounts that were there, even though the 2F ones look the same. Looks like I might have to elongate the oval hole to make this work, anybody had problems dropping a 3fe onto 2f mounts?
The motor is pretty happy where it is, might have to drop down a smidgen??

I should have said I grabbed the isolators from the donour 3fe, plus the right side mount, the isolator is at the end of the travel, looks like it needs to go another 3/4", something doesn't seem right. I'm sure the isolators are on the right way, seem they only really fit one way.

I was recently told that the 80's are a significantly narrower frame. Stands to reason that both the frame mounts and the engine brackets might be narrower too. I'll venture that replacing the engine brackets with 62 parts will cure the problem.

I went and grabbed the left side mount as well, turns out it's the same as the 80 series, so no lovin' there. It has to be the 2F frame mount is different, anybody got a 62 frame sitting around without a motor in it, that could snap me a picture or two. I really would like to know how close the opening (where you bolt the isolator, elongated hole) is to end of the mount, closest to the motor. looks like if I extend the opening 3/4" on both frame mounts, these might work.

Phil, I just pulled my 3fe from the 62 and the mount is different than what you have posted.

The oval on the engine bolt side of the mount is 1 3/8" to center of the oval hole, 3 3/4" to the bend towards the frame, and frame to engine side of the mount is 5 3/4"

I'm talking passenger side engine mount, in case I am confused.

I don't have a pic at the moment, dead batteries...

Thanks Kim, I'll post a picture of the right side mount tomorrow, perhaps you could measure across the frame, oval to oval. I'm sure I've read that the 3fe/ 2f mount is the same, I don't understand why there is such a gap from frame mount to frame :bang:
Make sure to cut those 3fe mounts out carefully, I'm sure I can get the 2H/ 12H-t mounts back in return for these.

Thank you, thank you Joe_E, I thought I was loosing my mind. So, just to clarify for others, the mounts are NOT the same between a 2F and 3FE. Very close but not a drop in.

Thanks, I was hoping to have this buttoned up by August 15, ha, ha, ha I wonder what I was smoking that day

Great Job! I think you'll like the engine/tranny combo.

Thanks, I have subscribed to your thread since day one, can't wait for the test drive.

Sweet looks good man

Thanks. I've made great progress, due to the fact my wife and kids went to Mexico for the month of July. Once the kids come home I doubt they'll let me spend 6-8 hours a day in the shop, and work just completely gets in the way.

You would be correct, if I had 62 mounts instead of 60 mounts I would be making forward progress.

I will measure that later today.

Nice work man. The 5 speed will be great.

It's funny, I get slagged all the time for buying a gas '80. However when you factor in that I paid about 10 grand less than a diesel, it would take about 10 years to make up the fuel savings. My truck is a weekend wheeler not a DD.

Of course I'd rather have a diesel but you have to look at the big picture. Plus the 3FE is bombproof.

Exactly! I'm in exactly the same position, considering what I paid for the truck, I can buy a lot of gas. I figure sometime down the road a 12H-T will come my way, one thing I have is patience. I DD a Honda Civic, not a LC built that will get the mileage I get out of it. $35 = 600KMs

Whoo Hoo!!! Success, I stopped by Kim's and relieved him of his 62 frame mounts, go figure, they work perfectly. I'll burn them in tomorrow, hopefully the rest of the parts show up, otherwise I'll be spending quality time in the parts washer.
