I love the possibilities of 3d printing.

Anyone got any pointers on free or cheap 3d modelling software suitable for this kind of project?
Or pointers to an idiots guide to 3d printing?

I've played with a couple of programs. Done some 3d modelling to sort out design issues on construction projects, but as a 3d modeller, I make a pretty good construction foreman 😆 and haven't been able to justify spending money on software

I am not the correct person to respond really, but I've done a few in Sketchup, learning Blender. but there is FreeCad, LibreCad, OpenCad and HeeksCad. I have them all installed and haven't had time to do much learning wise. I would imagine you could pick them up fairly quickly where I am starting from nothing.

Autodesk Fusion 360 is free to the hobbyist and Is the benchmark of 3D modeling IMHO.

I've used SketchUp a little bit, but not for ages. I think I found it ok.
From memory I paid a small subscription fee for more functionality. Can't remember though

Definitely encourage you to buy a 3D printer and have a play - I've found endless uses for mine.

I originally bought it for my racing sim motion platform project - and to put it mildly the wife was very dubious - but I've used the crap out of it for all sorts of things. Amazing world we live in where you can have a need, model, prototype and build in your basement.

I started with SketchUp, and I am cheap... People don't look at other tools when they are happy with the tools they have. Learning blender hasn't been easy but certainly has more features and less glitches. I didn't know I could use Fusion for free so I will have to look at that.

I would love to a rear ashtray replacement that incorporates a single USB and a seat heater switch. I also wouldn't mind a 3rd row ashtray replacement that had a 120v outlet.

Those are not hard, you can pull down the attached sketches and modify them pretty easy. The rear one can be purchased in just about any configuration if you don't want to print just look at the bolt ripper build threat for those ideas.

I am going to design one to replace my 3rd row ashtray when i get time

both of these are already available?

and

thanks @Delta VS

@GA682 sounds like you want to use the spot in the rear doors for the rear seat heater switches. Delta can probably adjust his model to fit your switches. If you want the different switch in the spot I made a panel for let me know and I can make some changes for you.

Has anyone printed the fender flare clips? My driver side rear panel fender flare is missing 2 clips. I have a 3-D printer and can print from a file. Thanks

The replaceable ones? Those are still available from Toyota.

edit: not saying that’s a reason to not print them, just that probably not going to be much effort in printing them until no longer available?

No, not the replaceable ones, the plastic part on the flare itself. I know lots of people repair them with epoxy etc. but mine are not repairable. Completely sheared off. I have clips and welting I just need to replace the (receptacle ) for the clip. Hope that makes sense. Thanks

Gotcha, that makes a lot more sense! They are different for 91-91, 93-94, and 95-97, so keep that in mind if/when you find anything.
