3B Engine Block Coolant Drain

Anybody have a good picture, diagram, etc of the engine block coolant drain plug (bolt). The diagram in shop manual is not too detailed. Thanks.

Hey Bruce,

The engine block drain plug on a 3B is located above the starter on the left side of the engine. I believe (from memory) that it is either a 10 mm or 12 mm bolt.

I am uploading a photo from the manual, but I can take one for you as soon as I get home if this doesn't help.

Found this old thread and I was wondering if someone could help me locate the coolant drain plug on my 1984 BJ42 from Canada. I've included a couple pictures from different angles showing what I think could be the drain plug. Would appreciate if someone could confirm if it is bolt #1 or #2. Thanks in advance.

It's definitely not #1 and I don't think it's #2 either. All the drains I have seen are aft (further towards the gearbox) of the dipstick guide. Keep looking.

Position #1 is your piston oil squirter. Should be 4 of those across the side. Don’t mess with those
