3B compound turbo, 25psi boost!?!

So I'm getting ready to pull these off my truck as I'm prepping the old gal for sale. I changed out the large turbos exhaust housing to a .63 and noticed boost gains across the rev range. Here are some numbers I've gathered. Timing is retarded as it's not intercooled. Fuel is maxed out. Burns clean unless you stomp on it of idle. Max egts are now 1100f pre turbo. Intercooling would drop egts a lot and would allow much lower boost numbers freeing up some power.

If anyone is interested in buying them let me know as you can take it for a drive before I pull them off. I'm in the Fraser valley.

WOT
1200rpm 5lbs boost
1500rpm 12lbs boost
2000rpm 23lbs boost
2800rpm 33lbs boost

100km/h cruise
800f
14lbs boost
17lbs drive

5th gear Hill climb 110km/h
1100f
30lbs boost
35lbs drive

Ahh thanks. I spent some time redoing some of the piping and reinstalled the stock airbox along with the snorkel. I found out why I had that chronic overheating issue when towing. The turbo water lines ran directly from the outlet off the water pump, through both turbos and back to the pump. Cus I didn't run a restrictor to limit flow it stole a huge amount of volume from the radiator. Since eliminating the coolant lines and retarding the timing I can pretty much do whatever I want without any cooling concerns. Time for a FMIC.

So I took off the large turbo and made it a single set up keeping the small turbo as is with the extended tip 13t and intercooled it. 2.5 SS exhaust with a aero turbine muffler. Throaty but not loud. Egts are way down and pulls much better with less boost. Should have done this year's ago. Did did some drive pressure measurements. This was all done at 2200 rpm.
Boost psi. Drive psi. EGT F

Cruise 7 / 8.5 / 750

Hill. 15. / 17. / 925

Hill. 20. / 22. / 1050

Please forgive the overly large hose clamps and the goofy blue turbo blanket, I ordered black....

Wow! your boost number with the compound turbo were nuts. That musta been a fun setup. I have learnt that driving down the freeway boosting 25 psi for long periods of time just snaps crank shafts. Its nice to have the power there. But now I just drive 100km's instead of 140 ha!

So the more I learn about stuff in this life the more I realize how little I understand. It was fun to drive, but this set up is more effecient economy wise and power wise. With high intake temps you have to really compensate with retarded timing. I didn't do that and suffered for it. I'm running slightly retarded timing at the moment and guess my peak torque is around 2000rpm. Power in the late teens is up by a huge degree even though it's running less boost and lower egts. I also have zero cooling issues which I also think we're as a result partly from over advance.

So the whole time in writing this post I'm staring at a pop up add on this page with this on it....wtf?

WTF delete your search history dude!

So, given that you've learnt a little more with your latest tinkering, could you now get a set of compounds performing better? Or would you just not bother

So I do have a wife who also uses the computer, please remember that.....sheesh. I'm also an RN so I've got much better options available to me if it ever gets to that. Those hover boards are somewhat unstable. So compounds are not a new concept, but timing tuning info is super hard to come by. Building compounds is a fairly laborious endeavour so you had better have enough fuel to utilize them. That is not the case in a stock 3B. On that last set up I would have used a turbo larger than a t3. An hy35 would have been a good combo. Mapping for the smaller turbo would have been better with the 13c compressor I had on it origionally. As I get older I have a lot less time it seems. Lots more mapping and sizing as opposed to dive and build it and see how it works.

Well at least it looks like your having fun.

Depends got my back

Here is a video of me pulling the cut from the iron workers bridge up to north Van. Tuff to tell, but lots of traffic and started the hill at around 70kmh. Ended at 90ish kmh with egts at 1125f. I'm not sure what the grade is but it looks like 6-7%. Fairly steep.

quiet inside! :) that nice. We pretty much have to wear head sets.

Thanks. I too had many a bj60 and bj40 which were quite loud and distinctly remember my fj40 for which I had a set of ear muffs I use to wear everytime I drove on the freeway. Absolutely Deafening truck. The 62s come with many extra comforts namely extra sound deadening. That being said it's so much louder than my 80 series. One of the many reasons I'm going over to it. Just nicer for the family. Being able to talk in your vehicle is nice sometimes.

Ha! Sometimes its better off that I dont hear my wife ramble on. What baby crying? lol
