Getting around to installing Marks4wd gears. I am using a seirra install kit from Kurt at cruiser outfitters which utilizes a crush sleeve. I believe the gear set is designed with a solid spacer in mind. So we chucked the pinion up in the lathe and took off about .150" in between the bearing shoulders. Other than that very smooth

This is the pattern I got first install with the original shims. Looked good I played with slight shim changes but ended up going back to the original and calling it a day. Next set should go much quicker. I haven't done gears in about 8 years. Should be getting the fronts done sat or sun this weekend

Right on, cool to see some of the innovative Aussie gear making it over hear. I've heard of the 3.54's but never had a set here in the shop, anxious to hear how you like them. Could be a very workable solution for diesel owners.


Fwiw, our install kits (IKTOYLC/IKTOYLCB) come with the part for both crush sleeve and solid spacer (i.e. shouldered pinions) so you have the ability to shim either direction. Keep up the good work!

I'll give you a call about the shims. I bought those 2 kits plus the 2 for my elockers. I ended up with 6 shim bags all identical.

Luckily I have not needed any, as the stock shimming has given me good patterns. I was talking with turbophil(builds lotus which has a toyota based drive train) he never has to change gear shimming on those either. I've only done 5 sets of gears up to this point all Dana and chevy corporate axles before and they have never been this easy. Tight OEM tolerance leads to consistent aftermarket support.

Old vs new and the pattern from my 235k mile original 4.10 gears. Not as good of shape as the rear for sure. A lot of sticky reside and a little froth idictating some water presence. I think I was on borrowed time with this set up. Still ran clean no noise... at least that I could not tell over the diesel knock.

Pinion fits great no clearance issues standard crush sleave fit nicely

Again original toyota shims used no need for any adjustment. Nice and easy couple days I'll have it back together and couple weeks for some mpg reports
 
Changed the name to what the thread as become after the group buy was over
 
I talked with Kurt from Cruiser Outfitters when I was ordering the ARB's for turbophil's rig. The intention is that the pinion is shimmed from the bearing race no the pinion. that is how newer toyota's are shimmed. it makes it very universal. one kit fits all.

i should have some driving results tomorrow then lots of trans shift tuning with the TCM-2000 i'm using.

Just put the 4.1 gears I bought up for sale, im going for some 3.73s!

According to the calculator I used I should do about 2100rpm at 100kph with 3.73 gears and 33s.
 
These gears are nice. I really can't feel the difference power wise. What I do notice is more road noise in the highway because the engine/turbo noise on the hwy is less now. It will push 80 just fine. With my 315/75 r16 I'm at 2000 rpm at about 74 mph. Very nice
 
Are you noticing a slower take off? I've been running stock gears work 35's and my 1FZ since I had it and it is totally doable. I've got my 4BD2T and it will get an nv4500. On the fence about 3.73 or these.
 
Not a very noticeable difference but I'm auto so we are in a different ball park. I don't think the Isuzu motors are as rpm efficiency driven. So low cruise at speed is not as important. What transfer case are you running. If split case your better off doing overdrive gears in there. Most with the nv4500 report not using 1st very much I certainly didn't in my dodge as soon as you let out your pretty much shifting again. Nice on hills and slow moving traffic. Dump the clutch and crawl with the social metal herd.

With the diesel. The low end is not going to be affected with the gearing change. The high end is the focus. You might not have as much benefit as us cummins guys with lowering the hwy rpm into the sweet spot. For the cummins 1900rpm is the most efficient/power point to try and balance drivability with efficiency.
 
Call up marks4wd.

My understanding is 3.54 gears was an option one year behind the 24valve hd1 version in one market but that is all hearsay Marks4wd said they occasionally get them from toyota but their gear manufacture makes them to OEM spec
