I was under the impression toyota would not sell parts into the USA for vehicles that were not sold here.
I tried to order the ring gear for a 1FZ flywheel from an online site, and i was told they could not get them.
Seems like toyota lawyers are worried about a lawsuit.
I would not let parts be a big determinate in selecting an engine or driveline to go with, but it is something to think about.
Guess as long as I can get basic filters I would be happy. What can really go wrong with a toyota engine...?

Go slap whoever told you that.

On top that's a remanufactured 2.0Kw starter for a 2LII, 3L, or 2LT-E. None sold in North America.

The hard part is coming up with a part number. Most delaerships don't have more than the US market parts catalog, so they can't look it up for you.

But if it's a valid part number, any dealership CAN order it. Will they? Don't know. Don't care. I live near CDan. But he can ship.

Trust me: they sell parts for vehicles that weren't sold here. I don't own a single US spec vehicle. I haven't been without a running vehicle due to parts.

About the only things that are not available are those that are "manufacturer discontinued."

This is indeed good news. I though it dident make much sense, but then again, in this day and age I dont doubt it.
Now if I could just figure out how to sneek in a few turbo diesel 80 series, I really have to take a whole day and read all the importing threads, but I have a hard time sitting still that long.

I really cant believe the laws we have here. You seem to be pretty connected, do you know the best place to get the necessary parts to convert a FZJ80 from auto to stick shift? A friend of mine as an 80 that wants a stick, and I want to sell my jeep to get a locked 80. So I sometimes poke around the internet to see what I can find. SOR has some stuff, but its uber expensive, is there an alternative?

Guess were getting way off topic here, so much for the 3.4L vs. 4.3L debate.
cheers

I got bored today and dropped a 3.0 V6 into a radio flyer, soon as i get the wiring and transmission figured out im going to have the best power to weight ratio for a toyota ever........might need a tougher chassis though

I haven't found a GOOD alternative.

The day I can get the stuff to put a 1HD-T and 5 speed into one, is the day I'll buy an 80.

Nice! Progress!

So, does this mean that the 3.0 is out for good, to be replaced by... Did you ever get a decision on the 3.4 for it?

Dan

We were making 4.3 conversions well before Toyota made a 3.4 engine. Our take is this:
(a) If you use a Toyota 3.4, it will be stock and possibly have 185 h.p., or you can install a $4-5,000 TRD supercharger and have 285 h.p., until the supercharger blows the piss out of your rist pins and connecting rods. If you opt for this choice, PM me and I can tell you how to unscramble the wiring without needing a new harness.
(b) If you opt for the 4.3, 200 h.p. out of the box, then another 25 h.p. with a Jet Chip, etc. etc.---and the performance gains just keep rolling on and on!!!!!

So basically what you're saying is... you're promoting old technology vs new. Sure, 4.3's a popular swap. Sure it's less "complicated" than a 3.4 swap. Sure, getting parts at Vatozone is easier for a 4.3 vs. a 5VZ. But, w/ most 5VZ's, you don't need replacement parts. The 5VZ is far more superior than the 4.3 for more than 1 reason. Running ANY supercharger on ANY engine, you're gonna need fuel mods. Don't act like a jackass, just so you can pedal your products.

Sounded to me like he was trying to be helpful.
If your a Toyota purist 3.4 is the way to go. If you are on a budget, unless you find a smokin' deal on a 3.4, the 4.3 is a reliable motor.

As far as superiority, the 4.3 has never had any major issues. some of the late 90's vortec models have injector problems. (just don't run cheap gas ) early TBI models will not make much power

165hp or so. but the later scpi models and those with Ls1 type (mpfi) computers are all around 200hp w/ 250 ft lb's tq

seems like this thread has been up here too long with out me sayin its an abomination to use a bowtie under the hood of that toy.

hell slap a UZFE series engine in there

I'll go with ya on definition #3. There was a few shameful underpowered yota owners who are now happy with their 4.3

But as far as the definition #1 I'd have to say that applies to the 3.0 V6 toyota...

But hey the V8 idea... :D

Has anyone swapped in a 4.7 from an LC, Tundra, or 3rd Gen 4Runner?

Doh.... he sells conversion kits......

Have you seen a single post from Downy where he is not pushing his stuff?

Mark...
Mark, I'd expect to see remarks like yours on TTORA where the blind lead the blind. Think about this for a moment:
(a) I've been manufacturing Off Road equipment for 39 years.
(b) MUD people ask where to find exactly what we build!!
(c) We build exactly what solves MUD persons problem!!
So what am I suppose to do, NOT be helpful?? Maybe you should try having on your shelf exactly what solves a guys problem, yet having to keep your mouth shut to avoid being accused of pimping product---not an easy trick!!!
