oh, and why did toyota use dana 60's, was it because of the diesel engines or ?

I don't think so ..

Here are not the rule .. actually are only a few spread here in Panamá .. but in Venezuela are the most common rear axle for 60 and 70 series ...

They are maded by DanaVen in Venezuela and as you know in venezuela they don't have Diesel Cruisers ..

I'm with Mace on the fact that the strength increase of the d60 is in the housing, pinion and the aftermarket 35 spline stuff or even 40 spline. Real ? is what do you really need ? Just put poly axles in and see what happens. I have some of the first poly sf axles for a 40 in and they are going strong. Hell, mine were not even painted when I got em. Been in for 3 years I think.

:D

Here's my take:

The D60 35 spline is likely the same strength as any of the cruiser stuff with the PP axles. And it sounds like the cost will be almost the same.

BUT... IF you do break the PP axle, then that's it...you've maxed out the axle already. But if you had spent that $450 on the D60, you have lots of room to upgrade.

Smity beats on his s*** pretty damn hard, but his cruiser is on a diet, too.

Actually I'm not sure that I will go up on tires on Tencha .. I will love buy a TSL 38" to save the chains most of the time ( time and effort puting, removing and at home cleaning the chains ) it will be less stress on my axles ..

Thought I'm getting old .. :hillbilly:

i'm guessing that the LC D60 would pretty much bolt up under your rig if it came out of a 60 series? you would definitely love a set of tsl's or boggers, those mtr's suck in the mud

Ding ding ding..

ya .. I know the MTR sucks .. that's why I always carry my chains .. that are far better than any bogger or TSL .. just more work and mess to put and pull ..

But clear I'm not running far enough my Cruiser so maybe I can afford a set of TLS that last 2 years or more ..

And yes again ... the D60 it's almost bolt on .. ( just some SO fab, sping perfches and shocks base ) and there is money on it ..

Just wondering if the D60 SF pass side are common in USA .. just to get enough aftermarket .. ? ( cheaper than Toyota .. ? )

D60 PS drop axles are pretty damn far from common in the USA. However, getting aftermarket axle shafts for a D60 is VERY easy..

What aftermarket "stuff" are you looking for?

Seeing as how I commited to an Orion upgrade - I'd be stoked if passenger drop D60's were common. Too bad.

Not to hijack - but what's a ballpark cost for custom D60 axle shafts?

ARB / Detroit / Eaton electric locker .. ?

R&P .. ? ( I'm running 4.56 )

Chromo axles . ? 35 splines .. ?

I have a rule .. if I gonna do .. do it well !

Jeep J20 or 30.

As long as you do not go something truly exotic like 300M less than $400 a set is reasonable.

D60 lockers are super common.

as are 4.56 gears.

Axles are the sky's limit...

I will take few pics tomorrow of the D60 SF pass side that I can buy .. it's on a friend place .. so it's easy.

Can you recomend site to buy all D60 stuff .. ? I'm lost outside of Cruiser stuff ..

Mad4x4
Poly performance..
There are tons of options out there for a D60.. Shop around.

Pirate is a great source for vendors of 60 parts...

i doubt that you would ever break 35 spline axle shafts with 37's ....

and there's no way that chains are better than boggers in the mud, we specialize in freaking mud here and i've yet to see any rednecks with chains on their tires lol

Chains are pretty damn impressive in mud...

i can see that and i guess chains are a pretty good solution if it's a non-trailered rig, there's nothing worse than listening to boggers on the road....

there was one out of a j20 or whatever on pirate for sale not too terribly long ago, out west i think...

Thanks for the reference Mace. Thanks for the lead - found one of the links in the FS section.

I'm running a stock axle up front (guessing around 56" wms to wms) - and with 2" spacers am at about 60". I kinda like Maces point on just using custom axle shafts. Find a good deal on a 6 lug D60 SF with 4.56 and a Detroit or better with 35 spine shafts. Sell the shafts - cut it down to 60" with the proper offset for the Orion and then pony up $400+ for shafts. Is this doable?

Guessing it's less of an issue for Tapage as he's already got the wider 60 axles and can run spacers up front to get closer.

The J20 D60 is 68" right?
