2nd group buy on DT Headers?

Interesting comparison in the 2 wheel dyno thread.

However, it still doesn't answer what one should expect from the DT Header mod. The Tacoma threads showed a great dyno with a before and after mod results. The thing that's confusing is that the results showed a 40-50hp increase. Seems rather unbelievable for just a header.

Anyone have a dyno result for the DT header mod?

Looking at those dyno charts doesnt say much other than his truck is making less than stock power - I honestly suspect that that dyno run was less than accurate... If we are really going to dyno it should be done on a 4 wheel dyno (mustang perhaps). Also I notice in the posters sig that he has a different exhaust which may not be tuned to the truck and resulting in lower performance.

If you figure 25% driveline loss the stock LC 229hp/320Ft should be like 170hp/240ft at the wheels. I would expect that the header would give another 15-30ft lbs and maybe 5-15hp. Whats more important is the improved drivability in my opinion.

ahhhhhhahahahahaa

Ok so seriously, buy a pair of headers "just incase" this happens later on. You wont need to spend all that $ on ONE single manifold.

OUCH!

From the way my leak is sounding I bet my manifold looks similar Loud!

I emailed Nick about the question of the 06 Header fitting, again, and the effectiveness of their header vs. Toyota. Below is his response. (he emailed me back in less than a day!)

I wouldn’t really consider anything Toyota has done a header. Its more of a very crude tubular manifold. We have about 14-15 people so far so not too bad. If you can get somebody to send me pics of an 06 then we can do comparisons from our fit up photos and confirm fitment.

I was also curious to how many deposits he had on this buy.

I'd still really like to see a pic of an 06 header and/or heat shield as a comparison!

Loud - did that break coming out or was it completely severed in the truck?

Severed in the truck. Farinvail was driving down I-70 when it completely gave out...at least he was on his way to Slees to get it replaced anyways ;)

look pfran, I mentioned it again!

Yes it is $560 for both sides. Plus you will want to get new studs, nuts, head to header gaskets and header to down pipe gaskets from CDAN. I just ordered the parts and they were something like $100. As for the install, try talking to Nick, since you are in SoCal you may be able to have them install the headers for you.

Thanks Kirk, that would be great if they can install it too! Any of the local buyers from the last group buy got theirs installed by DT?

I think someone did. I wanted to get in on the first GB and I think I asked Nick and he said that they would do it. Just hit him up.

Exhaust stud part # 90080-12008 qty 16 mud price thru CDAN $2.70 per
Exhaust lock nut # 90080-17187 qty 16 mud price thru CDAN $1.33 per
Head to Header gasket #17173-50021 qty 2 mud price thru CDAN $16.15 per
Header to Downpipe gasket #90080-43036 qty 2 mud price thru CDAN $6.99 per

Just checked my packing slip from Cruiser Dan.

Not replacing the down pipe studs?

Not replacing the down pipe studs?

New nuts maybe, but why new studs if not broken? All mine were clean. Might be handy to have a few around just in case, but I wouldn't recommend having that be part of the plan, either on the collector or on the manifold.

I did use permatex anti-seize on the reinstall.

Good point, probably should get a set of those and the nuts too. But, I'm in rust free SoCal, so I should be fine either way.

The why not is that you are already down there, freshen them up for another $15 and piece of mind. If you get in and everything is fine then you have an option. Get in and it looks bad but you didn't order what you need - now you're stuck.

i just got off the phone with Nick. I put a deposit down. He told me that he has 18-19 deposits as pf today

For those in SoCal. I posted back in the 1st group buy that the shop who did my DT header was willing to get us Cruiser guys a deal price on install. you will need to drop the truck off for two days, and it's going to be $450, by appointment only. He's the same guy that install my DT header from our 1st group buy. So he has the experence on when to expect. He also did all the maintainance on my car and build my race car, so I do trust his workmanship.
