Stan, I appreciate you keeping the slot for me, but I think I need to let it go.
Yesterday afternoon it became official: I will be headed to New Hampshire in February (which is an awesome time to go there ).
Sarah and the boys will stay in Wilmington until the school year is over, and then head North as well. I will be trying to get back to NC on the weekends to spend time with them.
Though it is theoretically possible we could make the trip, I can't say that it is likely.
Perhaps, if the planets align, I'll just chase you all down and be an unofficial hanger-on.

Well dang..... I was hoping you were moving to West Jefferson ;).......Congrats on the new location!

Sorry to hear that you will be leaving the area Jim. We were hoping you were getting the move to the Greenville area.

I'll open your slot up. Hope you can somehow make it. We won't tell if we go to 9.

One slot open currently.

W. Jeff, Asheville, Greenville are all plants I'd have loved to have gone to. There are some family reasons to head back North now, and I just happens to coincide with the business wanting me in NH. Rare that things work out so smoothly. We will miss the Carolinas, but most of all we'll miss hanging with ONSC.

If not maxed out, throw me, Tandy and our 2 pups on the list!! I will make 100% certain with her schedule tonight but this far in advance should be good to go!

Very cool Ryan @96Cruiser13. Say hi to your Dad and Mom :)

Jim, you will be greatly missed. As far as trail buddies go, you're the best! I hope that one day life brings you back to the Carolinas. Do well in your new venture :) You always have a place to crash in this part of the world.

Thanks I appreciate it.
Sarah and I do want to get back this way eventually. Probably further west than we are now.

So this is going to be May 26-28th, correct? Trying to lock it down in our schedules.

We had a couple free tickets to this tour:

Asheville Brewery Tours Led By Beer Experts | BREW-ed

So we are going to do that THU night. We will be staying in downtown Asheville the night of the 25th. Let me know if you have interest in the tour.

Thinking about staying at Davidson Creek camp ground the night of the 26th, but I think it requires a two-night stay :(

Still trying to figure out Friday night - ideally camping somewhere West of Asheville.

We can grab dinner on Friday night if your interested also if you wanted to stay east of Asheville i have 23 acres

JD - Dinner would be fun and would love the opportunity to camp at your place. We could do a cook-out as well, if wanted. We will need to get food for the weekend that PM.

Sounds like a real vacation for you and Heather, Jamie. I'd like to take Fri too but I just do not see it happening unless Heather takes off.

Thought others would like this, from an expedition thread.

As a relative newb, I don't know what overlanding is for "me" yet and I have no interest in defining or making a judgement of what it is.

However, based on my life experience with other adventure pursuits, setting a goal to explore remote parts of our great country in a vehicle and executing on a plan to do that, will produce a similar set of experiences in all persons that do the same thing.

We will all spend money to buy what we think we "need" and find we don't really "need" this or that.
We will learn that getting out of camp faster and easier is a good thing.
We will learn that helping our friends or a trail stranger is more rewarding than anything else we do.
We will treasure the experiences we have exploring and challenging ourselves.
We will want to go again, next weekend or next month or next year.
We will want to share knowledge and help others with their rigs or their route.
We will all develop a deep appreciation for the places we have seen and the "journey of experiences" we have in common.

As I read post after post on this outstanding "mud" gathering place, I thank all those that share this common experience, breathing life and humanity into overlanding, whatever it is.

I find that all the above pretty much applies to taking a cruise too :)

What? Getting soft on me Stan? I always thought of you more of a deep thoughts by Jack Handey kind of guy, like

"If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is “God is crying.” And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is “Probably because of something you did.”

Or
"If God dwells inside us, like some people say, I sure hope He like enchiladas, because that’s what He’s getting!"
