Hello Everyone, started the tear down and rebuild of my engine.
Have not ordered any parts yet.
Lets start with some pics.

2nd casualty,
i dropped the 2nd piston on the floor when taking it out.
as you can see, it hit on a corner and has bent and is also protruding on the side.
Can this be re-used? by a bit of sanding etc?

Why are you rebuilding it? Did the head crack?

Are the casualties just from damage during disassembly, or were they in the engine before you pulled it from the truck?

(subscribed, cross my fingers I don't have to do this to my 2LT-E anytime soon)

Dan

Is it your intention to replace the original head with the 3L version?

The Head was replaced 5 years ago. Head is doing fine.
Rings are worn, Compression is down to 350 - 370.

Piston Damage was caused by the fall to the floor, not there before disassemble..

How many km's on your truck? I was under the impression the bottom end's of the L series were tough and long lasting.

I also will be watching your rebuild with interest. Would be nice to know the costs involved too. I just looked at a cheap prado with a cracked head yesterday. The guy had the head removed and left the bottom end un-protected and now it needs a rebuild (rust in the cylinder bores). I was tempted by the truck until I saw that it needed a rebuilt or new engine.

I Have driven it 100K kms in the last 5.5 yrs. I think the meter was wound back, so cant say. currently its sitting at 190K

the bearings have some wear and scratches and debris embedded, but nothing too drastic.

Hi Everyone,
Got a question for everyone, I have posted a pic above of #2 piston.
Is it ok to reuse it? or should i get a new one.
Thanks,
Ali.
