I'm rebuilding a 2F from an '82 60. I have 2 OEM head gaskets (11115-61010 and 11115-61030). The 61010 is supposed to fit as the 61030 is supposed to be post '84. However, when I lay both on the block, the 61030 fits the push rod holes correctly. The block is definitely from an '82 as the number is: 2F 624621. Here are pics where I've marked the differences. The first is the 61010 and the second the 61030. Any suggestions. I'm planning to install the 61010 in spite of it not fitting the push rod holes as well.

Thank you for your assistance.

Cheers,

Mike

I believe the top one needs to be flipped around, the oil galley hole is blocked, between #4 and 5
IIRC not all the coolant passages are open, but the ones by cylinder 6 need to be open

Thank you. Yes, I believe you are correct. Still working to see what gasket to use. As far as I can now tell, the 61030 is now used to replace the 61010, even for '82 2F engines. From other threads I was able to find, it sounds like either will work though.

@3_puppies the machinist who assembled my 2F somehow figured out how to make it fit ... I guess the tag on that gasket wasn't too long. He screwed up a few other things, too, like using larger chevy valves than I spec'ed for the head, not aligning the oil pump mounting boss, so I couldn't install the dizzy, and re-fuculating which screws went where on the timing cover back plate, so it leaks...

years ago, I'd heard of a guy cutting the tab off and then wondering why there is no oil to the rocker assembly, as the oil passage was blocked by the gasket

I rebuilt my 2F last year and went through this same panic attack. The truck is an 82, the donor 2F is an 86, and I had a 11115-61030 HG. Rory at @RocketCityCrzrs talked it over with me and that's the correct HG supercession for 1978-1987 flat-top-piston 2Fs. ~10k miles on the motor since last year and zero issues. I may or may not have heard somewhere (from Rory or maybe here on Mud) that some of the holes were blocked by the superceded HG part to better optimize coolant flow. And some of the holes might not have coolant, they're perhaps just dead ends that aided with the manufacturing or fixturing process. I can't say for certain on those two things, but I'm passing along the info.

There's also this thread: F, 2F (and 3F for giggles) Head Gasket Tech & Reference - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/f-2f-and-3f-for-giggles-head-gasket-tech-reference.1280750/

Tons of info there. It may make you even more confused with how much tech is in that thread.

To add to this, here’s the 61040 HG on a 1981 2F. lifelong40Fan and I are texting and trading photos of this and I’m completely confused as to what is correct/best? Hoping someone knows definitively which HG should be used. I might spend some time this weekend mapping out whether the blocked coolant passages lead anywhere. The HG that came off my engine matches the 61040 that I have as a replacement from Toyota.

Open ports in the block under these pieces of blue tape.

Open ports in the head referenced by blue tape, these are blocked by the gasket. Head casting is 61040.

Any help is appreciated.

I wonder what the individual head gasket part number is within that "kit" part number. I'll post some photos from my engine build last summer shortly. I've got a few of my HG quandary.

Since July 2025 I’ve been daily driving this along with taking several longer distance trips.
