Anyone running 255/75-17 tires? This is the take-off size for Jeep Wrangler Rubicons. Lots of inexpensive no-mile BFG MTs out there and I'm tempted.

Those should fit stock/look funny lifted :)

At most, I'm planning to do 5100 adjustable struts up front and tricking the rear airbags, so it won't sit more than an inch or two higher than stock.

I'll poke around for take-offs. I know the Goodyears are better tires, but Rubi take-offs are often very cheap.

Ha, sure. I actually started a build thread on PradoPoint.com. I posted up a picture of the 2002 there. I don't actually have a tii currently - my car is a carb'd model. But someone else had the 2002 username. The tii added some horsepower but also a higher degree of finickiness. I can tune a carb in my sleep, but dealing with a 1970s fuel injection system is more like a nightmare.

Nice bimmer I have had 31 different BMW in past 30 years 4 of them were 2002 model i love them cars.question : you mentioned the Axel boots where leaking did you change them or did you have some body do them for you . thanks

Thank you. I've had four 02s myself (two 1600s and two 2002s). You may have a problem ;)

No, I haven't done anything about the axle boot yet. It's just one on the driver's side - the one closer to the differential. I am not sure if it has a more specific name. I may just do it myself.

BMWs are a gateway drug to more BMWs.

And they used to be cheaper than off roaders... no longer. A good driver round tail 2002 (73 or earlier) is at least $5,000 these days.

Running a little taller BFG's 255/80/17. I siped mine. Great tires, I wheel Moab and deep snow a lot. They aren't as pretty as the 35's on my fj80, but they dig better in deep mud/snow and perform better overall.

I'm running the Hankook Dynapro ATm in 255/75R17 on my GX, very happy with them and this size!

I had 255/75-17 BFG Muds on my old lifted 4th Gen 4R. Good tires, but I always regretted not going wider. My personal opinion was that they did not match the style of the truck. A GX may be a different story though, and I love skinnies on old Land Cruisers and Toyota pickups.

-10 to -12 offset with 4.5 backspace with 285/75R17 was what this truck was made for! Perfect stance!

Do need a lift and a body mount chop to get it right though.

I have 255/75R17 Duratracs. The spare won't fit in the stock location (at least not with KDSS).

They will if you flatten it (if you have onboard air)

JLee- Any more pics?

Dan- 285/75's seem like the easy choice and definitely what Im leaning towards but I just wanted to see some other options as I don't want the tires to stick out too far past the fenders. Im also thinking the 255/75's may get a little better mpg's, I'm running 17" tundra/sequoia split spokes...
