Hey guys,
I've got a 24v Japanese import 1986 2H 60 series with one of the 2 12v in series batteries constantly going dead (just completely drains yet the other battery stays at 100%)
The battery light is staying on yet my alternator seems to be working.

I tested for a parasitic drain but I don't think I have one, yet if I leave my car sitting for a few days, one of the batteries will go flat.

My mate reckons the voltage regulator might be the culprit. It's a small external unit I've attached a picture of.

I cant seem to find that unit number (RGX 2028) anywhere online, I think it was an old ashdown ingram part number but they cant seem to help me.

Do you guys know what part I should buy? This one looks pretty close, just want to make sure.

My alternator unit number is 27030-68120

Would greatly appreciate anyone pointing me in the right direction... maybe it's not even the regulator?

The thing with two 12 volt batteries to make 24 volts is they have to be thought of as one battery, by that I mean is if one is dying change both or you will always be fighting dead batteries. Unless they are deep cycle batteries, once a battery has gone flat a few times it's done, it won't hold charge anymore. Second thing is that you must never drain from one battey to get 12 volts for radios or accessories that will destroy your system. (Look up evil centre tap on here) To check your voltage regulator start it up and put a multimeter on the alternator or just the batteries if you can't access the post on the alternator and you want to see 28 volts +/- 0.5 volts. If you are in the lower 24 - 25 it's done. Then can be adjusted but yours looks aftermarket already, they are often not the highest quality. Count the wires and look up 6 wire or 5 wire 24 volt external regulator and you should be able to find some usually from forklift shops. I have a 3b engine with a 24 volt system and intalled two years ago after fighting with intemitent filter lights and the truck just shutting off, on the road when the voltage surged and popped the breaker (I replaced the fusilble link with breakers). Repalced the regualtor and been running like a top since.

Good luck, I hope this helps you out.
