So I just finished with having my injectors rebuilt and I'm looking at my fuel rail and the honkin fuel damper hanging off the front. I'm not really sure what it does, but I do know that toyota didn't think very highly of it since they got rid of it in 89. Anyone know why this is?

More to the point, I was looking to replace the hose that runs from the fuel filter to the fuel rail but its since been discontinued. However the line that fits the newer fuel rail (89-up) is still available. Is there any reason why I can't just upgrade to the new fuel rail that doesn't have the damper since they both cost the same price (in fact I think the rail is cheaper) and would it be better to go to the newer FPR as well, or am I missing something vital that the damper does for an 85 22re?

good question I would like to know to mine was leaking gas a while ago and that thing was like 130.00 I think from toyota.

The fuel dampener is not necessary, that is why it was removed, I think it was used to absorb the fuel pressure surges on the fuel rail. LC engineering sells and AN adapter that screws In place of the dampener which will allow the use of a -6 AN hose to be attached.

Wouldn't this problem go away if you sourced a '90 to '95 upper plenum and throttle body? That's a pretty easy swap and also not very expensive as normally you can get them pretty cheap. In fact I sold the injectors that came with the parts on ebay and actually made money on the whole deal.

Any idea why toyota put it on in the first place?

I think it was put there for noise reduction as well as to absorb pressure surges created by the fuel pump, for what ever reason Toyota decided it was not necessary and removed it on later engines.

The fuel rail is attached to the lower intake manifold, either the late or early style fuel rails should fit. I relocated my fuel filter to the passenger fender well and as such my fuel lines are a bit tweaked, I plan on removing the dampener, replacing it with a -6 AN x M14 x 1.5 fitting. The fitting will screw in place of the dampener (M14 x 1.5), the two tabs will have to be cut off, and allow me to attach a -6 AN hose to the fuel rail with the appropriate banjo fitting for the fuel filter. LCE sells the fitting with the crush washer, or one could send their old fuel rail to LCE and have it all done for a bit over &100.00.

I think I got the lower manifold, fuel rail, injectors, throttle cable and the air intake hose when I got the parts. I can't remember which fuel rail I used when I put it all back together.

Do you happen to have a link to this adapter? I can't find it on their website.

Also, what would be the harm in just replacing it with an appropriately sized banjo bolt?

Thanks.

You don't need to get it from LCE, just order one from a site that sells AN fittings, I usually just call LCE any time I need to order something. The fittings is -6AN on one end and metric on the other, remember to use a crush washer or it will leak.
