22re engine replacement

I read that the 85-94 22re engines are essentially the same. Can I get any year 22re and put it in my 85 auto 4runner and use my fuel injection and computer and all? I know its a stupid question that has probably already been answered but I would just like a swap that is as simple as possible. Thanks!

you need to make sure it is a laser block,

The short answer is yes. There will be some sensors you will need to retain from your truck. Personally, I would swap in a late model engine with the manifolds and intake, and just swap over the sensors from your truck. There might need to be some fiddling, like the pawl in the throttle body and some coolant hoses, but it should be pretty easy.

If you get the complete engine with the harness and computer you could probably do a complete swap, but I suspect it would be more work.
