I have an 86' 4 Runner with a 22RE, I parked it for about a month, the next time I fired it up it started as usual with no indicated issues, then cut off and would not restart. Just befor it cut off there was an indication of the engine starving fir fuel.

Ive checked all the usual causes yet it seems to be running on the cold start injector, once the cold start injector cuts off so does the engine.

Fuel pump cheeks out good
I've replaced the ignitor with a knowen good ignitor
When I manually open the AFM the fuel pump turns on

This weekend I'm going to dive into it more, but if anyone has a suggestion outside of check for codes and use the FSM ID really appreciate it.

Well, if your fuel pump is good then this is a head-scratcher. All I can think of are the infamous splices in the harness to the injectors. They corrode and fail. Do you have the resistor thing on the passenger fender? I wonder if this could be the issue. On mine it's wired between the computer and the injectors.

I would work your way up the fuel system after it stops running.
Start by cracking the fuel filter lines (pass side of block), but those can be kind of a pain.
Then crack a line at the fuel rail.
You might as well just crack the cold start injector line too to test your hypothesis.
If you get fuel up the line, then either your injectors, or the wiring to your injectors is probably having issues.

Is the gas in the tank older than the month it sat?

Very strange indeed.

Two other potential issues. Fuel pressure regulator, or the fuel damper.

Yes my truck has the EFI Resistor, FPR is about a year old, OEM Toyota. I can't see how the damper could cause this issue, later 22RE's did not even have one.

If the ECU does not see an RPM signal from the ignitor it will it fire the injectors. The injectors are powered all the time, the ECU sends a ground signal when RPM is sensed. The cold start injector will ONLY fire off if the coolant temp is below 40degres, once the coolant is above the set temp the cold start injectir will shut off.

This weekend I'm going to do some troubleshooting, read codes, check wires and such.

no codes in the ECU, I swapped the ECU for a knowen good one....that was the trick. Turns out I had a bad water leak that must have caused the ECU to fail. The leak was at the fire wall, where the engine harness passes through, in heavy down poors water would travel down the harness and drip on the ECU.

:beer::beer: Always something easy.
