if there was I would think the luxury + of the GX would be more expensive and luxurious.
Car and Driver's latest article now says this for trims:

"As far as trim levels are concerned, we think the Land Cruiser could arrive with a bevy of options including off-road-inspired TRD and Trailhunter models. Toyota is sure to add more mainstream options like an SR5, Limited, or Platinum for shoppers less interested in a rugged 4x4."

since we're putting in guesses - mine is that all the trims of the LC250 are $7-10k less than their GX550 equivalents
I would have agreed a decade ago but they seem to have narrowed that gaps on the LC and LX. I think they will be cheaper but not $7-10k. Maybe $2-4k.

if top level LC is the platinum, the delta between that trim and the luxury + GX could be $7K
I guess that depends on your definition of "equivalent" trim. For models with equivalent equipment I think the Lexus premium will probably be $2-4k and could possibly be zero.

Hmm...and here I thought the whole point of the reintroduction of the LC in the US was a rugged off road oriented 4x4... (i.e. the Wrangler and Bronco competitor everyone keeps talking about) 🤔

I'm not sure there's going to be a ton of buyers at $70k+ after the initial novelty wears off. A base model Sequoia is $60k and tops at low 80's. You can buy a diesel Tahoe for $60k. An Armada is $60. A Tundra 1794 w/ TRD OR package is $66. And a 4Runner is 40-55k. I find it pretty unrealistic that it'll sell very many at a price higher than comparably equipped tundra or sequoias. A few? Sure. Not a lot IMO. I'd say it'll need to start around $50 and top around 70-75. I can't see any way they go higher in price than about $75k.

But - MSRP and transaction price may be pretty different. Stellantis went nuts and raised prices about 50% across the board in the last 3 years - but transaction prices haven't followed. Ram and Jeep dealers are swimming in unsold inventory they can't move. Average transaction prices are 10-15% under MSRP for the brands that went way up on MSRPs. I'm not sure how Toyota will handle $10k on the hood fire sales for a Land Cruiser if they massively overshoot the market value.

These guys seem pretty sure about the engine:

L4T is – without a shadow of a doubt – the standard powerplant for the United States. A 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder lump shared with the mid-sized Tacoma, said engine produces 228 horsepower in the SR and 278 for all other grades. The 2024 model year Tacoma further boasts a hybrid-assisted 2.4er, which is officially rated at 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet (630 Nm).

It's gotta be the Tacoma's hybrid and the Tundra's non-Hybrid TTV6.... Tundra / Sequoia hybrid V6 would be a real winner but only if they don't wreck the 3rd row, but I don't see how they could swing it with the same batteries.

LC vs. GX

That’s unfortunate. It seems like you can’t be in 4 lo with the center diff unlocked.
That's the same as the current / past gen Toyotas like my 3rd Gen tacoma. If you're in 4x4, the center diff is locked. It's not a center differential like on a Subaru or some full-time AWD powertrains.

I don't think it's a deal breaker by any means - what would be sweet to see would be a RWD 2Lo setting, but it's probably not needed with an automatic and all that available power.

Spot is obviously for a front locker. Even my 2007 GX470 has a spot for the OEM locker switch the Prado came with but my GX was never offered with. Doubting they'll offer it here but would seem to be an easy mod with a switch and front diff from Partsoq....or just a Harrop.

Having the center diff unlocked in 4LO is a nice feature in my GX470. I could live without it but it definitely can be helpful when I don't want to bother to shift out of 4LO but want to be able to steer easily. It's also nice for driving slow on pavement (crazy snow/ice, towing our camper up something steep, etc).

Again curious if this is a mechanical feature (no way to bypass) or something electronic that can be fixed. Guessing the new LC isn't going to be as simple and mod-able as the older ones....

@Rednexus
I use 4L with CDL unlocked a lot on my 460 as well on paved boat ramps and moving trailers around

I thought there was a reference earlier in thread that 4R Limited forced CDL locked in 4L… I don’t believe that is the case but open to being corrected. Entirely optional on the 460 as well.

We just don’t get the neutral CDL on the 460 like the 470 can for towing. I do think when I look in past it could be possible but not easy to engage.

Kind of crappy for sure if that is the case (no pun intended :)).

Frankly many of these features (TT engine, lack of CDL lock, etc) just make me want to keep my 470 for a very long time. My 470 would have seemed spaceship-complicated in 2007 anyway compared to the simple 90s vehicle I drove then, but has now been totally cracked/figured out by the aftermarket - I am presuming the new LC and GX will be the same way in 2039 when they are 16 years old.

That wasn't me. I have been saying it was going to based on the Prado since at least April.

It is very strange that the GX550 has a center lock button while the LC seems to have it built into the 4H/4L shift control. I am not sure of the value of such a complication.

True, but very much in-line with the 4th gen 4Runner having a pushbutton TC while the 470 has a real lever, GX460 getting a 6-speed while the 5th gen T4R gets a 5-speed, Taco getting a 3.5 while the 4Runner soldiers on with the old 4.0, different axles (8.2 vs. 8.75), drum brakes on the Taco vs. discs on the 4Runner since '03 etc.

I cannot help but wonder while none of this was standardized or at least consistent between up-trim and basic vehicles......

I’m an enthusiastic fan of these new rigs/series but I’m still hanging onto my 460 for the foreseeable future.

It does what I need to do.
