That sounds awesome- so did you remove the factory hitch or are you dual hitched? Also like the table idea... Didn’t see that in the catalog.

I'm guessing dual because with the stock Labs receiver, the bikes will probably hit the spare tire and even if they clear it, you can't open the swingouts and access the back door.

Ordered a kit with dual swing and tire carrier. Hopefully it'll save a good bit on shipping!

Coming to Houston with some other folks.

Going to do something similar for bike rack. .

Yep it's dual hitched. There's the integrated hitch which is built into the their rear crossmember and then on my swing arm they welded a 14-inch 2" hitch receiver on the tire carrier side. I'll take a picture when I get home.

See above. The "factory" is alreay removed since you have to cut the rear crossmember. Their hitch can't be removed since it is integrated into their version of the rear crossmember. A separate hitch receiver was welded onto one of the swing arms. This would obviously only be used to carry bike racks and such and not used for towing.

As far as other options available they can basically do anything for you custom. You just have to tell them what you want and they can typically accommodate. Their website isn't the best but if there are any add-ons you want you can give them a call and see if they can do it for you.

Yes, please post a pic. That cruiser that just sold on BAT for ridiculous $ had the same thing.

My concerns with doing the same thing are
1: I assume it's not centered? That might drive me, and specifically my wife, crazy
2: at 14 inches that sounds like it's begging for me to walk by it when the bike rack isn't on and gouge my hip or side on it. Kinda like walking into a trailer hitch, but higher up on the body. Sounds painful

I'm trying to think of a way to make it easily removable. The rack usually lives on the wife's Subaru, only occasionally on the cruiser.

A hitch extender might be the ticket. I would not tow with one, but have seen them in lengths around a foot— that would keep the rest hidden under the spare when not in use. I assume most people use them on vehicles with a rear mounted spare. Harbor freight has them if you don’t like your bike too much...

I'll be hanging almost $10k in bikes off of the rack, but you can't tell me a HF hitch extender is really any worse than any other extender. It's just a chunk of metal. But you still wouldn't be able to open the swing outs with the bikes on an extender.

I’ve got my 1Up mounted vertical off the 2” receiver that’s centered on my spare swingout. Granted I came up with some stuff to make it work and mine is an ARB, but the concept is the same.

Need to make a slight tweak to turn the bike 90 degrees to tuck it close to the truck, just gotta find the time!

I was reading this the other day... check gallery, looks like you can swing away the bikes with the tire.

My thinking is you’d want the extender rather than the long hitch under the tire. Lower profile for limited use.

  1. It's definitely offset slightly from center. Not by much but it's there. It's not something that bothers me or I notice too much but you may be different. I don't see a way for them not to offset it unless you're running a single full length swing arm or if you dual swing arms with one arm longer than the other.
  2. They mounted the hitch receiver on the tire side swing arm. So it actually doesn't stick out past my measly 11" wide tires. For most folks in the 80 series world I bet you're running 12.5" wide tires. I still have a good 5" from the end of the hitch receiver to the end of the tire. I've mounted my 1-up bike rack to it and have been able to swing my bike out without contacting hitting the truck either. Obviously it does make it a bit more of challenge to reach the latch with bikes in the way.

Prior to seeing the added hitch receiver as some others have done, I was thinking about using the center of the tire carrier as well, but that would definitely be off of center.

Certainly off center, but I was more interested in it being attached to my swingout to easily get to the hatch and tailgate for gear. As I mount my bike vertically, it actually works quite well.

Ah yes, if it was vertical that wouldn't bug me at all. Maybe I will look for something like that. 👍

What are you riding? I'm on a Santa Cruz Hightower LT and my wife rides a Niner Rip9.

Great idea for that receiver for a bike rack. I might do the same!

Nice bikes! We don’t have anything too gnarly around here. Excellent trail system and a ton of fun, but nothing I would consider needing full squish. If I was, SC is high on the list! My newest is a Giant Fathom

I see your in florida, not exactly mt bike heaven. We're lucky to have lots of legit, ocean front trails locally, and some awesome riding all around us in Santa Cruz, Tahoe, LA mountains etc.

for those of us who want the bike rack on our dual swing out 80 rear bumper, just let luke/simon know via phone call?

Affirmative

@InDaWoods

I’m going factory 6M1 (emerald green) and the good paint too! (PPG, 2 stage base and clear) I’ll post on my build thread about the paint, this bumper and other stuff I’ve been up to this year.

Shopline PPG. good stuff. That's what i use to paint my trucks.

4x4 labs called today, went by and picked up Lee‘s and my kit. They have over 30 kits plus bumpers on order, luke was cutting big sheets of steel and the guys were very busy, two complete bumpers were picked up while I was there (They were really nice). They are kicking them out as fast as possible.. we ordered as soon as the code was posted.. be patient they are building them.
