I had it on my 2011 LX 570 and I have it now on my 2015 Lexus LX 570 and I’ve never used it it’s too easy to open manually

Yes, great thing about it is that the power function is completely optional! Though the latching and release mechanism is electronic.

The dealer sent me a video of the 2018 I am purchasing.

I did get to see that new soft open feature on the lower portion of the gate in the video.

I really like that new soft open feature for sure.

I don't know if anyone else has ever done this, but a few years ago I had crawled under the back of one of my 2011 Cruisers to take the hitch cover off. I had a screw driver in hand to pop the tabs and then set that screw driver up on the rear bumper when I was done, only a few minutes late I popped the rear hatch open and dropped the tailgate only to here a thud of the gate hitting that screw driver handle and creasing the rear tailgate.
Luckily a $100 or $200 later my PDR guy had the crease pushed back out.

I think had I had this soft open tailgate feature the 18 has now, that crease would have never happened.

Oooof! I absolutely have done this and think you're spot on. Many a time, I have left my locking hitch bolt and/or keys on that bumper ledge while I'm dealing some hitch thingy. Only to open the lower gate and pinching them in there. It's never left a mark, and I think you're right that the soft open has saved me some body damage. I make it a habit never to leave stuff on there anymore. Too bad as it's such a convenient shelf!

Dupe

Got my 18 bought yesterday. Thought I would update this thread with details of my transaction.
I found info from other 18 owners on this thread very helpful in my shopping process to help me have a decent feel for what good deal or decent deal was.

Details:
I bought my 2018 LC today for 77k OTD (NO TAX) MSRP was $86825.00.
It was right at 10k off plus the 199 doc fee.
I shopped off and on for 2 months and ended up driving 8 hours round trip today to get it done.
I have no doubt I could have got a 17 with the rear screens for less. I just hated those screens and did like the minor updates on the 18 features.
