Depends on which house/cabin they pick. I don't see anything in Corolla or Duck.

As always I'm in.

I haven't been able to get in on this ride yet due to scheduling and really want to so I'm throwing my hat in.
While beach houses are great, I'm for camping (or I guess glamping in my case) anytime outside of Jul-Aug.

I would love to do the STR this year. We are good with either a house or camping (Frisco Campground is badass) but open to suggestions. We could possible start a new thread with a poll unless house or camping has already been decided.

Everyone interested in attending, please read:

I personally love camping at Frisco Woods, but due to the driving restrictions (and limited access and driving space) we moved it from the Frisco/Hatteras area, up to the 4x4 area in Corolla/Carova last year and had a blast! Many reasons why but the 3 big ones are: 1) you don't have to pay $75 (per truck) to drive for the week we'll be there. 2) camping at Frisco Woods is just about as expensive as renting a house 3) More areas for driving and exploring!

It is unfortunate that each year GSMTR continued to bump up the date of the ride, as STR has always been in this general time frame. I'd love to accommodate the GSMTR date, but historically very few of us actually go compared to the talk at the beginning of the year. We've consistently had more people come to STR than go to GSMTR.

It is true that the SC crew would like to double up with a house next to us, and share the price of one heated pool with a nice deck area for hanging out. I am in the process of reaching out to them to shore everything up timing wise. But, I'd love to have 2 mixed houses of both groups so that we intermingle and get to know each other, and don't stay closed off in two separate houses! This was what has made this ride so nice last year that we have had both groups together!

So, going forward this is how it's going to run, and I apologize for the supreme dictatorship feel, but after having been the first events coordinator for this club, I know how we all roll.

Sample house: Dragonfly Knoll
This is one of the more expensive houses for that week....

1. Anyone interested in going will need to secure their spot by paying up front. Last year, I believe the cost was around $250 per room for the entire week. Bear with me here comes the math! House price for the week, divided by the # of days, divided by the number of rooms occupied per day. Example: The House rental above is $2700 ~2700/7 = ~$385 a day. But if we book all 9 bedrooms for the entire week it becomes $42 a day per room (42*7=$294). This is just an example and prices will fluctuate.
2. I'll say by the end of January, I'll select a house (or houses) with the appropriate amount of rooms, as I have paid spots. But timing is the key to get a good house.
3. Based upon the actual house price, I'll refund the difference, or you'll owe the week before when the remainder is due.

So, as much as I hate trying to keep track of posts in a thread, for visibility sake no PM's, post up last name, duration, and # of people in your room. And I'll update this post for a estimate who's going. Official numbers will be who has actually paid by the end of January.

1. Keefers, entire week, 4
2. Rymers, entire week, 5
3. Forrest, entire week, 1
4. White, entire week, 4
5. Thompsons, most of the week, 2

Actually, GSMTR has been the same week 4 of the last 5 years, with last year being the only "early" year, and they're back to the regular week this year, so that will make 5 out of 6 years essentially the same exact week.

May 14-20, 2012
May 13-19, 2013

Of course we've consistently had more people go to STR than GSMTR. I expect that will continue, and I hope that's the case, since STR is our event. It would just be nice if there could be more than a 1 week gap so that it didn't have to be such an "either/or" decision, since both events are such wonderful events, and it would be nice if at least one year we could have a group from ONSC attend GSMTR.

I guess the point is moot though, since the decision has been made.

Yeah but when we started STR in 2008 or 2009, GSMTR was being held in June. The decision to move the OBX trip back a month or so was after we ran into sleet and snow flurries that infamous year, and we went with late April right before the driving restrictions kicked in on Hatteras on May 1st.

Jeez, who do you think you are the supreme dictator? JK, I've got to look at the wifey and kids schedules before I can commit. That is an excellent week for me since my birthday is on the 17th. Less than $300 a room for a week is CRAZY cheap. We have a family beach vacation scheduled two months later and we are paying $1200 per room for a week and it's not even beach front :( I will let you know as soon as I can. Thanks for doing this Brian and Heather!

there is like a 99% chance 3 (maybe 4) of us will be there at least the weekend. need to work out schedule with family a little more.

THose dates are close to summer tide ride :-D

Im pretty bummed i will miss this. Next year for sure.

OK, since we're heading into the last week or so of January I'd like to finalize the house plans, and book it next weekend. We're at 4 bedrooms, and I've seen prices from about 500-1000 ($125-250) a bedroom. Do we HAVE to have a pool, hot tub, or beach front? Or is everyone flexible? I know the kids would love a pool, and beach front is great. But here are a few options:

$500 +extras, canal front (not sure if anyone else is into kayaking) and pretty cheap: Southern Exposure

$1100 + extras (5 bedrooms so we could add another person later) ocean front w/pool Second Thoughts

Last years house: Cardiff By The Sea
6 bedrooms, worked well for everyone

And of course, the schedule for what we do is flexible. Last year, we discussed the next day's plans the night before. And some of the events were: Tour the lighthouses, hang out in the trucks in front of the house on the beach, seafood lunch/dinner out, look for wild horses, wander the sand trails behind the dunes, etc.

We'll plan a big mostly seafood themed dinner one night (not everyone loves seafood!).

Trying to get my neighbor to go ,they are very interested.he's going to be joining the club has a nice 1990 62 .

I'm easy, what ever you guys think will work best. Although beach side does sound nice and as you said, a pool would be nice for the kiddos.
Looking forward to this as I've missed it every year since finding out about the club.

Count us in for part/most of the week.

Last years house was sweet. Bigger house on the beach sounds great.
