Bump.

I'm thinking Top of The World is a 'must do' trail. I've done it once (FJ, not 200) and I don't remember it being too difficult. I hear it's gotten tougher over the past few years, but I'm going for it regardless.

Dome Plateau looks fun and scenic as well.

My two brothers are coming to Moab with me too (one flying in from DC and has never been to Moab), and they might be renting Jeeps as well. I support that decision, as I'm always up for testing my recovery gear. :rimshot:

Anyway, I'm thinking about starting off on 8/1 with a FunTreks 'green' then moving to blue (like Dome Plateau--assuming it can be run in the green first direction) and seeing how everyone feels about those and maybe moving onto a 'red' like ToTW which is in the same general area.

Day 2 will depend on how day 1 goes I suppose, but in the FunTreks book, area 4 trails 48,49,50,53, 55 look like a good long route with a little bit of everything.

Interested to hear anyone's thoughts on those trails/tentative game plan.

Top of the World is definitely doable in a 200. I did it in March. Although, it is pretty tough. I won't do it again unless I get bigger tires. Currently have 285/65R18.

Yes, Dome Plateau is accessible from the "green" direction. That's actually part of the Kokopeli Trail. I ran it 2 years ago in my FJC, I don't remember any part of DP that the 200 couldn't handle. There was one tricky part, but I think a 200 can handle it, if not, there's a bypass.

I've never been on Trail 49, Lockhart Basin, may be doable, but it's supposed to be pretty tough on the northern end. I doubt, I'd take my 200 down.

There's a YouTube video of a 200 using Crawl Control to sloooowly climb Trail 53, Elephant Hill. Doesn't look too bad, but video and be deceiving.

I think Hells Revenge is another 'must do' trail. I did that one, including Hells Gate, in my FJC and I don't remember it being too crazy.

@BikeNuke - Did you do HR in your 200? Thanks for all the helpful information as it relates to 200's in Moab!

No, I did Hell's Revenge in my FJ, I didn't try in the 200.

Only 53 more days!!!!!

I'm up for whatever. Would be awesome to do Hell's revenge where I think Hell's gate is- that is bucket list- but maybe I will do that at Cruise Moab next year- need a good experienced spotter on that one that knows the line.

Once we get things narrowed down- let me know- I will download the tracks into the MotionX HD GPS on my ipad to have to go along with my FunTreks book.

I was in the cab. My buddy - Adam took the pic
@Canyonero - reread your question - I had all sorts of gear in the truck....like too much. As I left Christo's shop he told me to lose the moose. Its better to have and not need than to need and not have. besides all that crap on top looked cool - ha

Safe travels. You will be missed

If anyone needs to fly someone in- Montrose,CO is only 45 min to Ouray. Houston actually has a direct flight daily. I think this is the spot for anyone going to and from Telluride/ Ouray

Especially given the distance you traveled and the things you were doing! Never know when you're going to have to tighten your rack! Just giving you s*** bro, truck looks sweet in that shot.

no kidding - that #$@%^&*&&!@ rack bracket fell apart like a three year old staying up past 10:00 pm.. at least we got to haul A$$ to catch up with the group "coming down the mountain" - Janes addiction style

It's getting close! Ok, I was thinking about the trip this weekend- and downloading GPX files so that we have the trails mapped for Ouray and Moab (I'm sure we would be fine with just the book, but like to know were we are). There are many, many trails. So I thought we should narrow those down a bit.

Here's my logic: I looked at all the trails they do at Cruise Moab (this was the base- may not be a good assumption), took out the ones that are difficult (higher than 6), a long distance, overnight, or sure to create damage and came up with a short list...(9 trails) then Googled the most popular, scenic trails for 4x4 in Moab and cross referenced them to that list and narrowed that down to 5 (Ones with **).

This is just to get us a head start if we are going to decide on the trails over dinner the night before (I'd recommend we do it earlier). Again, I'm not in charge or trying to push us one way or the other on any trail- just needed to narrow them down a bit to have trails on my IPAD.

Again, i have not done any trails in Moab, so this is just excel data... (Google Drive Shared). What do ya'll think?

Moab Short List
Moab Potential Trails.xlsx

I also can put the GPX files in this folder if others want them after we narrow down a bit.

@BTUMAN - thank you for that list you've put together. I agree we just want to have fun and not put anyone in a bad / scary situation.
Yes - I basically was pulling trails from the Cruise Moab trail run list - you were correct on your assumption.

Arrival date for me - I may end up not getting out there until the 2nd. I have a father in law going in for open heart surgery so my timelines are on the fence currently and I'm not trying to add any additional stress for my wife. I'll know more as in a week after his operation.
If you pray, loft one up for Chuck - thanks.

So, someone should take the lead on the first day and or the 1st as to not mess up everyone's travel plans or waste your time - I know time is valuable.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting any new faces.
Count down 22 days - 23 for me

Lose the moose?

??

@Willy beamin Yes, you guys take care of family and don't worry about this- we will see you if you can make it.

I can certainly get input from others on meet up spot the night before, day of trails, etc so as to take this off of you.

Thank you sir
