I'm seriously wanting to (after this weekend in rural Idaho) replace the OEM HID LB with 9006 LED (HB is getting new 9005 LEDs, Fogs got an H11 LEDs). It's a D4S HID.

Question; is there an adaptor or kit that someone has used (successfully) for going from D4S HID to 9006 LED? Why would I go "backwards" some will ask; after upgrading my fogs to H11 LEDs, the delta between the Fog and LB was dramatic, and when I switched to HB (stock) it was even more disappointing. Without adding an entire aftermarket front bumper (for now) and additional lighting I want to see if I can upgrade the stock systems first and the LB HID is my focus.

Thanks!

I doubt that swapping in LEDs will be any sort of upgrade. By and large, industry professionals agree that HIDs still provide better light output (throw, distance, etc.) than LEDs. You can easily get more lumens out of an LED setup, but if they are scattered and not on the road (where you need them), then you're not getting any use out of them. I'm also pretty sure that LEDs and HIDs use different lens setups.

I have Hikari Ultra LED bulbs (HB3 / 9005) in high beams, and Philips (D4S X-tremeVision Gen2 42402XV2C1) in low beams, and both provide very nice lighting.

You could mount something like this to your stock roof rack. @grinchy might be able to vouch for it.

What you are asking to attempt will not be an upgrade. Totally agree with @eatSleepWoof. If you really need that much lighting in rural Idaho, add a light bar or something similar. You will NOT get what you are seeking by swapping to LED.

But why?

Make sure your lenses are clear and lamps pointed correctly. What you want to do will not produce more light and will be aimed poorly.

I agree with everyone's responses. In all the side-by-side tests, HID is brighter and more visible than LED in a lense/housing that was not made for LED. Now if you put an LED in a housing/lens that is made for LED, with multiple LEDs, there is a chance it might be an upgrade, but I don't think that is what OP is planning.

Here is an article found on internet.

HID to LED conversions

it’s not hard to convert HID to LED. Just make sure you disconnect the HID ballast and bypass the ballast. There is a few gotcha, HID headlight usually use projector type lense. Switching to LED on the projector housing might limit the lumen output by LED.

i show you the way to convert. Your choice/decision to do the conversion.

Forgot to link the D2/D4 LED bulb
Amazon link to D2S/D4S bulb

I have to agree with your assessment here and that's been my lingering fear of putting an LED into an HID housing; different dispersion pattern based on HID filament verses LED emitter. I will admit that I truly dislike (wanted to use a much stronger adjective) HID over LED; as an engineer I loathe tech lock-in and while I have to accept some I don't have to accept all. I will continue to explore my options for the conversion as @molanginaeda has provided and outside.

I still want to hear about the options in this regard that doesn't include a full-on frontal ARB-esk bar at this time.

I put Rigid D2 pod lights on all the vehicles I have built and call it a day. Those D2s put out a lot of light. I angle them out so it is easier to see around corners and if something is about to jump out in front of me in the woods. I just finished putting a set on my LX with the CBI ditch light brackets.

same. Order ditch light bracket from CBI and waiting for arrival. I'm a BD person. Will run BD squardon pro for ditch light. 4900 lumens each !!!

Not to derail thread, but one tip with the CBI brackets. Install one side at a time and close hood. Mine hit the plastic between windshield and hood so I had to hit the plastic with a heat gun. It is hard to hit both sides with a heat gun at the same time.

@SC4TA, that's a great option! I don't seem to find the part listed on their website for the J200. Can you let me know which one you ordered/used for the J200?

I have the Rigid D2s still in a box and also Clearwater (Kristas, Ericas, and Darlas) from previous ADV motorcycle builds and a set of Cyclops (spot and flood).

Thanks!

Here you go:
Toyota 200 Series Land Cruiser Ditch Light Brackets - CBI Offroad Fab

For some reason on the CBI website, the part doesn't show up when you search by vehicle.
