Sold the 1997 80 series, LOVED IT, but needed more room and power for boat and camper towing. Family of 6, so we were tight on space in the 80.

Picked up a 2012 Sequoia in April 2021 - 103K mikes. Great Toyota dealer maintenance records from new, 1 owner. Almost perfect. The PO purchased the Sequoia and had it service from the same dealership I purchased it from - PO traded it in on a 2021 Sequoia - good Karma.

First pic on the way home from dealer:

First Mod: Removed center seat from middle row to create pass through like a minivan. Looks better in person. Excellent, useful mod for a family of 6:

The start of Baseline Maintenance:

Replaced OEM belt with a (AC Delco) Gates FleetRunner ($22 on RockAuto):

Replaced PCV. With 103K miles, that valve was STUCK! ($4 RockAuto):

Spark plugs going in next. Also ordered an air filter and oil filter to have on hand when needed.

nice , I have a new to me 2011. Which engine is that? How is it to wrench on compared to the 80?

I have the 5.7 and loving it - amazing power. In the photo I have the engine cover, intake tube, and upper airbox lid off to do the spark plugs.

Totally different to work on than the 80. With the 80, I LOVED to tinker and work on it. They are so simple and easy to fix on the trail.

The Sequoia is so new, reliable, and boring. I'll really just maintain it until it dies.

Drained / filled the front diff, rear diff, and t-case today with some fresh GL-5, 6 quarts for all 3, not bad. I was tickled pink to see all 3 fluids come out clean and fresh looking.

When I was under there, I also noticed that the U-joints actually have geese zerks like a real Toyota - that is sweet!

I need to do this, what pump did you use to replace the GL5?

I have done transmissions and the cheap plunger pumps I have used make quite the mess.

My Wife constantly tells me not to save things. I have had these since 2015, bought for my X5 that I sold. I just ordered the 5th quart the Sequoia needs.

And yes, I still have a fully functional VCR.

lol

Installed some Timbren springs / bumpers today.

Timbren Industries TORSEQ1 - Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems

Took about 30 minutes. Removing the rear tires is a must for simplicity of the install.

I'll report performance after I tow with them. Looks like new shocks are in order as well.

Drove approx 30 miles with 0 load, the Timbrens made 0 difference.

Drove 30 miles with my 18.5' boat, Timbrens made 0 difference, couldn't tell if they were working or not, rode great, handled well, minimal squat. The boat only has 200lbs of tongue weight though, so they might not have been engaging yet.

The real test will be the camper, which I will load ups soon.

The Timbren SES kit for the Sequoia is amazing, I highly recommend them for the sequoia IRS if you are towing. Handled totally different with them installed, much more confident and solid than the standard suspension when towing the camper. No weight distribution hitch needed, love it.
