My take was they lowered the entry height (frame/rocker) to increase the interior and improve in/engress.

And the 80 looks like a 4Runner
And the 200 looks like a Highlander
Who cares?
Those expecting a $70k vehicle to both perform well and look good.

And John is blind. The 80 looks like an 80. The 100 is a little less distinctive, but still unique.
The general public (and even car nuts who don't know landcruisers) don't realise the 100 is a different model to the 80.
I've had to pull up pictures of an 80 and a 100 to point out the differences to them.
Engineering: Doing it first time with one dollar, not four times with two.
"General public" is a broad term. You know this for a fact? What is your random sample? Most people I know (car nuts or not) think the opposite.
BTW, I like your sig line. Have you heard this one:
To accomplish a particular engineering task, you can do it right, you can do it quickly, or you can do it cheaply. Pick any two.

It's True.
In my experience, As I've owned several BMWs, Toyota seems
more dedicated to keeping their cars reliable.. Sometimes, in
fact, it seems these premium German brands, use the consumer (i.e
their money investment) to fund research and development on
on their new models..Many times I'd go to
the dealer frustrated with re-occuring mechanical problems or
software issues, and they'd just say, "Well, it's all going to be
taken care of by your warrenty." However, as good as that may
sound, there is still the inconvience, of not only the trips to the
dealer, but being in a situation where you don't have your car..
Never mind that you may have paid 60-70 thousand dollars for it.
In any case, I've learned that reliability and peace of mind, with
regard to owning a car, are the most important luxuries ...
While it may be true that nothing drives
like a BMW..I'm sure that pertains to when it's actually working..
My 2 cents .![]()
In my opinion TIME is most important of all and if I am wasting time at the dealer then the car is not worth it, no matter what the badge. I believe some of these people who by these cars that require alot of time at the dealer are basically bored and have nothing else to do. Range Rover body and interior materials with Land Cruiser everything else? Now that would be something.
Rover definetly gets the award for best interior though. You just can't compete with their leather quality and console design. My only gripe about them is everyone has them and they depreciate like rocks. Deprecation value is a pretty good indicator of the worth of a vehicle imho.
Funny video I just found when I searched Escalade.
