Those expecting a $70k vehicle to both perform well and look good.

I think the 200 looks absolutely AWESOME.

Other vehicles look similar to it just like others looked similar to the 100 and 80. Doesn't matter if it's similar. It just matters one likes it.

I have no hurt ego issue when someone asks me how I like my "4runner" when I'm actually in the 100 or 80. If I had a 200 and someone said "nice Highlander" I'd just say thanks.

I like the new 200 too and would buy a Land Cruiser over a LX570. I prefer kdss over AHC. Just 6 years to go until I get a good used. You guys take care of them for me. The only thing better would be a twin turbo diesel that got 23 mpg highway and 19 city.

And the 100 looks like a 4Runner
And the 80 looks like a 4Runner
And the 200 looks like a Highlander

Who cares?

And John is blind. The 80 looks like an 80. The 100 is a little less distinctive, but still unique.

If you don't care, that doesn't mean others shouldn't. Your opinion, contrary to what you might think, is not the only one of merit.

Believe it or not, I have always liked the look of the Rav4 and the Highlander.
When the new 200 came out, I finally thought "a Highlander worth buying". My deal in the past was that the Rav4 was way too small, and the Highlander not worth a dime off road.

I am probably the odd ball out here, but like it and not just because I have one.

Oh yeah...the 80 was an upgrade from my 4runner...needed more room and didn't want to loose the look.

Let the ribbing begin...

The general public (and even car nuts who don't know landcruisers) don't realise the 100 is a different model to the 80.
I've had to pull up pictures of an 80 and a 100 to point out the differences to them.

"General public" is a broad term. You know this for a fact? What is your random sample? Most people I know (car nuts or not) think the opposite.

But anyway, you know what they say about opinions and @$$holes, which was really the only point I was trying to make. I was just trying to contend that just because one person doesn't care how the 200 looks, or that it looks like a Highlander, doesn't mean that others who do care are wrong. They're all opinions and they're all valid and to say otherwise is just stupid.

My $0.02,

Engineering: Doing it first time with one dollar, not four times with two.

BTW, I like your sig line. Have you heard this one:

To accomplish a particular engineering task, you can do it right, you can do it quickly, or you can do it cheaply. Pick any two.

The random sample was mainly my workmates. Tradesmen and engineers, many who are into cars enough to do their own engine swaps etc and still didn't spot it.

Similarly in the landrover world, they kept too many similarities between the discovery I and the discovery II that few who aren't landrover nuts will notice.

I think I've used the "fast, good, cheap, pick two" on a customer before. A customer with a sense of humour of course.:D

Another one.
There are those who can read and understand.
There are those who can be told and understand.
But there are still some who need to pee on the electric fence themselves.

Don't waste your time on this. Some in this thread are simply.............ah, nevermind.

It's True.

In my experience, As I've owned several BMWs, Toyota seems

more dedicated to keeping their cars reliable.. Sometimes, in

fact, it seems these premium German brands, use the consumer (i.e

their money investment) to fund research and development on

on their new models..Many times I'd go to

the dealer frustrated with re-occuring mechanical problems or

software issues, and they'd just say, "Well, it's all going to be

taken care of by your warrenty." However, as good as that may

sound, there is still the inconvience, of not only the trips to the

dealer, but being in a situation where you don't have your car..

Never mind that you may have paid 60-70 thousand dollars for it.

In any case, I've learned that reliability and peace of mind, with

regard to owning a car, are the most important luxuries ...

While it may be true that nothing drives

like a BMW..I'm sure that pertains to when it's actually working..

My 2 cents .:)

I hate that, "oh don't worry, your warranty covers this problem".. In your mind your thinking, well that's not the point, I shouldn't even be here in the first place.

In my opinion TIME is most important of all and if I am wasting time at the dealer then the car is not worth it, no matter what the badge. I believe some of these people who by these cars that require alot of time at the dealer are basically bored and have nothing else to do. Range Rover body and interior materials with Land Cruiser everything else? Now that would be something.

Rover definetly gets the award for best interior though. You just can't compete with their leather quality and console design. My only gripe about them is everyone has them and they depreciate like rocks. Deprecation value is a pretty good indicator of the worth of a vehicle imho.

Funny video I just found when I searched Escalade.

They depreciate like rocks because of their horrible reliability. Owners wind up dumping them to rid themselves of the troubles.
