Trimming for CLOSE fitting sliders that failed to clearance themselves & tire clearance. Everything that was open when cut was sealed with JB weld, cured, then painted.

This thread just keeps getting better and better

She's a beauty! Like the exhaust job and the homebrew sliders, the sliders give it a slightly mad max vibe, diggin it

Warn winch marries Harbor Freight wireless winch controller. This gives you in cab winch control at the touch of a button. I was going for the rear window button mod that I had on my 95 HiLux, but this was simpler.

This time around was replacing the shot out lower control arm bushings using some clever heat and the factory bottle jack the old bushings come out with a pop. I apologize but I don’t have a photo of the new Whiteline Bushing themselves or the installation process. I can tell you the 20t harbor freight press made life super easy (overkill for this job) .

Power, yes power. The GX came up short in the rear power outlet department. It’s sister, the 4th Gen 4R has 12v rear but not the GX. What is does have is 100w inverter. Will run a inflatable mattress pump, Nintendo switch, a laptop but not much else. I used a popular write up for the 4R to get 24hr 12v, and ended up tapping into the 12v before the inverter to feed my little strip. Unfortunately since the GX and 4R are siblings but not twins, my button to provide power to the inverter controls nothing, the feed is 24hr hot.

Poorly documented and after 10,000 miles it’s needs some attention. I did the Engel/ ARB lid flip mod (it’s misleading). You start by removing the back mounted hinges on both the body and lid, then you tape them in place on the desired side, mark, drill, nutcert, tada. Like I said though the nutcerts are needing some attention. They have become loose in the hole (never good).

What’s the gold thing here you’re using to press the bushing?

It’s a press sleeve. Learned about it after watching Timmy the Toolman use them for wheel bearings. So naturally when I bought my HF 20t press, I had to have the sleeves.

While I wait for a weekend that both mine and my brothers schedules line up for some fabrication I’ve kept myself busy. The bumper had a silver coat of rust oleum since being made and it was time for something better. Along comes Charcoal Metalic tint from Custom Shop to be added to Raptor liner.

I also final coated my sliders with Raptor in black. But as we all know slider coatings are always just maintenance coats until they get scraped off again. I’d like to get a heavier coat on the bottom and maybe respray the top with the charcoal color to match the bumper.

As most have come to realize at least on the GX platform and other, the spare is most convenient when located at the rear and on a swing out.

On my previous vehicles 02 3rdG 4R I went with a Wilco OffRoad Hogh clearance swing out and modded it to hold a Hi-lift, and 2” bike rack. It worked well.

This time around I wanted it on the truck. I saw many build just built out of scrap or made from using other existing swings, like the 4xinnovation swing out kit.

This is the most economical approach I’ve found and I was ready to pair this with my factory setup and a rear slider or scribe bar. That was until Coastal OffRoad released that beauty of a high clearance rear bumper. So now the plan is to mate the two together for something truly unique, at least for the time being.

I talked to coastal offroad before black friday and it looks like the new extreme clearance bumper can be ordered with dual swingouts. They just don't have pics yet
