Some people like $100 bills and the fact Uncle Sam never knows about it.

I like $100 bills just fine. Unless you are selling it for more than the original purchase price, it is considered a "capital loss" and is not of much interest to "Uncle Sam".

Thanks for the lesson in taxation. I was not referring to capital gains or losses- i have had to report capital gains on vehicle sales so I know how that works.

What I was taking about is the fact some people like having emergency money around the house and not having any bank record of the deposit.

I've been shopping hard for the past several months and IMHO $17K is a solid deal if a PPI can be accomplished. If you can get it for less then by all means...

If the AHC system is performing well and you have a personal contingency fund for the timing belt and even steering rack, you'd still be out only $20K or so, which seems still be a good deal for that mileage. I'm surprised it's still on the market.

I just paid $18.9K for a 2006 LX with 120K miles. One owner, no accidents, CA truck and full Lexus dealer records. New tires put on by dealer. 9+/10 exterior and 9/10 interior. Needed the 120K service which I had done after purchase. Including AHC service, it cost $1K. Took it to SDTRUX here in San Diego for inspection and service and they think it was a good deal. I was looking for months and feel like I scored. Similar trucks going for $22K+ it seems, and not always with such a great history.

Seems like $17K is a good deal if you like the truck, but the lack of service history is something to seriously consider.

I bought mine the day it was listed for sale, sight unseen and had to fly to SF to pick it up. Good ones go fast.

You definitely scored. The good ones do go fast.

I bought mine sight unseen, too. First time for me but I had lost out on several deals at that point. Of course, the dealer told me he had more calls about the LC than any others which might have been true. I relied on the photos, the carfax and the dealer maintenance history to make a final decision. Although I paid a dealer price, they shipped it to me for the asking price and I have not been disappointed. Low mileage for that year and i great shape, I do not regret what I paid.

The Toyota dealer provided me with the window sticker for mine with all of the options and the MSRP for mine in 2006 was over $67,000. With slightly less than two thirds of its life left, it was a good deal for me.

Not much mentioned about the AHC system in the responses...that would be the biggest thing concerning you as these trucks are pretty much bullet proof but the AHC system can be troublesome if the fluid was contaminated. How is it operating? How does the suspension feel? I bought my 2001 in Jan of this year and the previous owners had 4 new shocks & accumulators installed in 2015 but I found out they were shot again after I bought it. I didn't have a pre-purchase inspection done, there was literally a line to see the LX at the owners house to and I was first...so I paid his asking of just under $11k, which is a steal for an 01 with 139k...in SoCal.

See about hiring a local toyota mechanic familiar with these trucks that's willing to meet you out there and inspect it. Will be tough to do a thorough inspection without a lift but they can at least see things that perhaps you wouldn't know to look for. The rest is usually just maintenance. You should budget for timing belt if you cannot verify it's been changed and it cannot hurt to put a call into the guys mechanic, even if they are friends. See what he's done.

I agree that $17k is a heck of a deal...pricing with these trucks has a lot to do with region. In Southern California they have a very high resale value and the inventory is pretty much zilch. Good ones go in a day or two and ones that are listed for weeks or months don't go for a reason. Out where you are it could be different. But go with your gut. If you like it and you think it's a fair price, go for it. You'd be hard pressed to find a cheaper one in better condition. This one is local.

And FWIW $67,000 in 06' is the same as around $81,000 today ....
Window sticker on my 2000 LX was $62,000
Bought it this month for $10,000 with 109,00 miles-cherry, but only issues are steering column locked in up position probably due to short in the electric motor and ride height stuck in neutral-has never been off road and has all belt and water pump service done at 98,000

FYI...I bought my wife's 2006 LX with 144k miles for $16,300 almost a year ago....and I think I really came out a winner in that deal. Timing belt had been done at 137K. Smog pump had already been replaced. Very good condition in the rare Cypress pearl color. I would not take $25k for it today. Amazing vehicle.

The price is all about condition and miles. Any car from the rest belt will have extensive rust to the
undercarriage if it was driven in the winter. Due to the body on frame construction even "slight rust"
means extensive rust inside the frame/shock/spring mounts. Rust never sleeps. I would only buy
from the southwest.

IMHO the prices for 100's and 470's are on an upward spiral, more and more enthusiasts recognize the capabilities and comfort that this vehicles offer, of course 40's, 55's, 60's and 80's are in an own league.
They are of course truly amazing trucks but with the stellar pricing people are looking for new perspectives.
Here in Taiwan people think I'm crazy to offroad in a LX470, they aren't aware how capable it really is

For the prices the 06-07 are going for I'd have to think long and hard about stepping up to a 200. I had an 06, sold it and paid cash for a 98 and actually enjoy the lower gearing on the 98 more. Both had 275/70r18s and the 98 hunts for gears far less than the 06.

I'm starting to see more and more 200s drop into the lower 20s so it's hard to justify paying almost that much for one with 100 less hp, 2k less towing capacity, 1 less gear in the trans, worse mileage, timing belts, etc.

I think it's false that 200's are readily being found in the low 20k range. You can drop a link to a few here and there if u want, but they're few and far between with higher miles from less than ideal geographic areas.

A nice 06-07 with lower miles is still much easier to find than a bottom of the barrel 200 in a the same price range...just basing this off six months of daily research and scouring the internet to find a nice 07'...

For Sale - 2008 LC Taking Interest

Took him more than 4 months to sell and it had an ARB rear bumper, sliders, a snorkel, and less miles. So it's not low 20s but considering the goodies it's a nice price. Like I said I've owned and wheeled both generations of 100s and for the price diff I'm not even considering an 06-07 any more.

Just my opinion.
