Since your issues started soon after you had the timing belt done, I would surmise it's related to that work. Did you double check that your timing is not off a tooth?

It is best if you post those misfire codes (DTC).

The sensor with wet and bad wires is AC. It's not going to cause misfire, that I know of.

Fuel pump issue kicking off DTC (codes), likely lean BK1 & BK2 condition. Not common for misfire. They do not always produce a CEL. Lean condition correct self, and they're (DTC) gone. So it's best to keep OBII tester connected, and keep checking for DTC pending on CEL, or current typically CEL on. Especially as condition happens.

You've replaced all plugs and coil (not boot legs i hope). I comes back to what mechanica first said, cam sensor or crank IIRC. So often wire routed wrong after T-belt service and they rub. Cam sensor can even be unseen wire under cover.

I saw a TSB on bad (defective) cam sensor. IIRC is was tilted HOT SOAKED.

OK I think I have FINALLY figured out the issue. I went out and took the "new" Crank sensor and examined the harness... turns out whoever messed with the sensor last, prob the shop i took it to for the sensor routed it behind the lower pully and it has rubbed through the wires..

AT least i finally know the issue, but now just got to figure out how to fix it in that tight spot

I do see that one a lot. But seems you had said it was check before. OH WELL!

Remove sensor, pull it and wire up to where you can work on it. Splice (watertight) in new wire and warp it. For now you can tuck-in once spliced. But best is to pull fan bracket and route it properly. Or this is what shop should do for you.

Makes one wonder what else they botched :hmm:

Want to bet you end up seeing oil leak soon!
Was the mouse door closed.
INDY shops and DIY mess this stuff up, all the time. Even some dealership do tech to.

Phewwww.. I think I may have actually found and fixed it for sure this time! I had previously checked the sensor, but did not pull the entire harness out from where it was routed until today. It was routed incorrectly behind the lower pully and wore through the shielding and the wires. I performed some surgery and put it back the right way and it fired right up. I will know for sure after I drive it a bunch but i feel confident this was the issue. Good news is now I have a completely sorted LC and will be good for many miles.

I did speak with my guy at the shop I used and he said that he didnt remove the harness and just installed a new crank sensor but said that he should have caught the fact it was routed wrong and fixed it. He was willing to give me an hour of labor for free, which is fine with me as it could be very possible that the harness had been routed for a long time. Also i had ordered a DENSO crank previously thinking the one the shop put in was lesser quality so I put that denso in while i was there.

anyway im happy for now as to have the issue seemingly resolved! Thanks for all the replies and info, Ill keep updated after driving some miles.

Maybe he wasn't at fault when he replaced the sensor, but you mentioned that they had done the timing belt--this is typically when the misrouting occurs.

Yup your prob right! Which is why i tend to do most of my work myself but sometimes I just have them do the things I dont have time for... may have cost me some time, money and frustration for sure this time!

Ok Everyone long time lurker and first time poster.

I have owned a few LCs and 5 Gen 3 4runners and NONE have given me the hard time that my Current 2003 LC is giving me.

Vehicle: 2003 LC 189k miles Blue on Tan and in fantastic shape. Its a Cali and now Hawaii car and has had regular maintenance. I had NO problems with the LC for the first 5k miles I drove it after I acquired it from the original owner 7 months ago.

The timing belt had not been done for 11 years and 70k so I had my local INDI shop do it. I also had them do the brakes, rotors while there. Also they changed out the front door speakers as I didnt have the time to do them myself.

My issues started soon after when my wife was driving it stated to skip, sputter, miss etc until if died on the side of the road. I went with my scan tool to see if I could see what was going on . I cleared the Miss fire codes and drove home 40 miles without much issue. But it did begin to sputter and stall once while I was driving. At this point I had the indi shop look at it and they said it was the Cam shaft position sensor which made sense to me and was consistent with the symptoms in my mind.

The LC ran fine for a bit after that until is stalled without notice 8 miles from my house all up hill. I was not able to restart the vehicle but was able to coast it all the way to the shop near my home, which is the same shop that had been doing the work. The lead mechanic whom i have dealt with many times and trust could not find out what the issue was. So at this point I had unlimited time and decided to figure it out myself. I have read every forum under the sun on this sight and others trying to determine the issue.

I began getting misfire codes so i decided to change all the plugs and coil packs with denso original equipment. Ran fine for awhile but the problem persisted.

I checked the fuel delivery at the filter and it felt strong but I decided to change out the fuel pump, sock, and filter. Ran great for 700 miles then the problems came back.

I then thought it could be the sub woofer which i replaced over powering the amp and causing the cpu to have issues, so i unplugged the amp all together and it once again ran fine for a long time but the problem came back.

I have checked the key fob, the fuel pump relay and added the 25 amp fuse to the box.

The fuse box is clean and does not seem disturbed or have corrosion.

I have replaced, checked, fixed everything I can think of. The car will start and run fine but then begin to sputter and miss quite bad at points, and at other points it runs perfect. I do not believe it to be a mechanical issue as the engine does not leak, i checked compression, did head gasket check, all good.

I am at my wits end and no one seems to know what the issue is. The vehicle does not have rust and the ground connections all seem good. I have not found any frayed or damaged wires either.

PLEASE HELP!
I went through something a bit like that with a misfire code I couldn’t get rid of w plugs and coils. My shop found low compression on cylinders ( uh oh), but it was a fuel injector thankfully. It didn’t stall but ran very rough. I was at 230k miles. The engine could be getting starved for fuel due to injector.

Went ahead and put in rebuilt injectors for all cylinders while doing job
