No special removal tool necessary. Do take careful note of the wheel position and try to place the new wheel in the exact same spline to avoid a non-centered steering wheel. I missed by a few splines and now my wheel is a few degrees off when I'm driving straight. Not a big deal but just something to watch out for.

I bought the $300 wood/leather wheel. It's better made than the $200 one. I think it's worth stepping up to the better leather on the more expensive one, IMHO. I'm going to put mine on this Sunday. I'll post before and afters.

Got it done. Looks good.

Here is a tip to get that steering wheel on as straight as possible:

Leave airbag off and remove two screws at the top. Hand tighten the nut onto the steering wheel. Take it for a drive on a nice safe, flat straight road. Figure out which way steering is pointing. Pull over. Remove nut. Pull off steering wheel. Adjust. PUT THE NUT BACK ON. Go for another drive and continue the process until you get as straight as it can be. Pull back into the garage, tighten that nut all the way. Put airbag back on.

Not satisfied with the brown leather re-wrap kits I opted last minute to color change the plastics and airbag cover along with wheel to black.
looks nice though. Thanks to Stephen McMurdie for selling me a replacement wheel. This means I’ll have a spare refurbished wheel to sell soon. IM me if you need one.

What did you use to change the color? I'd love to do a full interior color change someday..

When I changed my wheel, it was stuck on there pretty tight so just out of mechanical sympathy, I rented the tool at autozone for free. Much easier and no crazy yanking.

I grabbed a cheap steering puller set from HB but considered renting one like you. Yanking on the wheel is no bueno.

This worked really well, however i did need some coats of satin clear to protect the final finish. I did get a couple minor scratches from a heavy Stanley cup hitting the plastics. You might consider a 2k clear for extra protection.

Overall glad I refinished the plastics:
Hey Nate, looking to do similar on my 100. How is it holding up since it has been over 5 years.
What have you done to your 100 Series this week? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/what-have-you-done-to-your-100-series-this-week.609679/post-15987365

I was most worried about the airbag, but that has held up really well the plastic next to the ignition got scratched and so I redid it one time with more coats and some clear over it to protect everything.

You only need the SEM paint on the airbag. But on the hard plastic, you might consider going over those with a 2K clear.

Here’s what I did on my console:
