Great surfing and camping over the 4th! Borrowing a family member’s A Liner camper for the first time, which was perfect for my pregnant wife haha. Gonna be borrowing it a lot more often!
100% small trailers can complicate things but holy cow are the pro’s so worth it. It doesn’t take much camper to make massive camping gains.

We began to wind down our trip yesterday, left Twin Falls and went through City of Rocks National Reserve and Golden Spike National Historic Park. Both are near absolutely nothing but were definitely worth the stop but both hot as hell.
This morning we made the visit to the Heritage Museum. My wife was definitely “acting” excited about the stop but left wanting one of the FJ40 model trucks…she even talked about it at lunch. The 4 of us really enjoyed it and will go again when my kids want to read more of the info. Top notch collection.
Tomorrow is day 26 and we begin to head east in the morning.

Golden Spike is right in my neck of the woods! (Or rather, neck of the wastelands) Cool area and history, but it's out there for sure. Spiral jetty is a sort of cool little spot not too far from there as well. Did you go past the rocket garden at Northrop Grumman?
We passed right by the rocket garden! Very cool spot in the middle of nowhere.
We read about the spiral jetty after we had already passed it. This isn’t our last trip out here and every time we come we add things to the list for next time.
One of the areas of California I greatly miss. One of these days we'll visit again
My daughter lives in North Ogden and I love that area. My las trip there we saw the spiral jetty, dis Antelope Island and also drove the Pony express Trail from near Eagle Mountain to just inside of Nevada where we caught the highway to head back home. I hope to finish to Tahoe one day.
I love that area and can't wait to go back.
When he made the spiral jetty, it was meant to be a bit more dynamic of an art piece, changing with the seasons and the level of the water. Now that our lake is dying, we won't be able to experience it that way any more.
Last year we spent some time in the western part of Utah and found a bunch of really cool spots out on those dirt roads, a trilobite fossil dig, a obsidian bed, hermits cabin… we wanted to do the pony express trail into Salt Lake but ended up going to Great Basin NP instead. I still have a bunch of POI waypoints on my map that we wanted to check out in Utah and it seems like we always find our way out there on our longer trips even if we don’t plan on it from the beginnings. This trip was no different, we started out with no plans on stopping but then stayed 2 nights.
These are the pictures we originally saw of the spiral jetty and the lake but when we went out to Antelope Island we were surprise to see no water anywhere close to the shore line. There were a few wet areas but not what we expected. We thought that maybe the water was seasonal but it sounds like it’s not… sad.
Smooth sailing today, hoping for a repeat tomorrow. Found a decent campsite with power 10 min from the interstate in Nebraska, we were all over the hotel and ready to camp again.

We were camping in that same Bridge Bay campground over the 4th of July weekend, so family has been sharing all the news tidbits about it…
Thankfully this big guy was super chill and let me break down my tent peacefully when he decided to lay down in about that same spot pointed at my tent

We saw a lot of those guys while we were at Antelope island and they have no fear of people or vehicles. We saw many crossing the road and probably a dozen or more tourists out of their car, way too close, taking pictures. Bison is a tactical cow capable of stacking bodies.
That pic of you and your tent is wild, you have big balls of diamond.
We made it home yesterday and have been unpacking and cleaning today. This is the initial round of Cruiser cleanup, just tackling the worst of it, I’ll clean thoroughly maybe next week. I’ll be daily driving the cruiser while my wife’s LX is having some work done (updates on that eventually)… she gets the manly van, I get the Cruiser.
This was the longest trip for us to date, 27 days on the road, 24 in the camper with 21 consecutive, and 2 in a hotel in Salt Lake. 8,185 miles in total, 5,980 pulling the camper.
I’ve consistently sent oil samples to Blackstone and they’ve said I’m good to go up to 8,500 miles, I run Amsoil 0/30. I’d never go that long but it’s nice to know I can if I had to. I’ll report back with what the report is on this one, I’ll have it changed and mailed out tomorrow.
This trip was a doozy, we’ve had 7 multi week camping trips with this Land Cruiser but this was the first one where we weren’t sad when it was near the end. Don’t get me wrong, it was outstanding and we did all kinds of amazing things, it was just a roller coaster and that bad gas situation was a gut punch… doggone cost us that Omelet bar at Embassy Suites!
I’m extremely grateful to the mud community, yall are always great to help everyone out regardless of the questions or situations and some of yall will even offer up your time, tools, and driveways to internet strangers with Land Cruisers. This wasn’t the first time I’ve taken one of yall up on an actual visit to your house, I’m sure it won’t be the last. Seriously, Cruiser people are the best, it’s one of the unknown perks of ownership. My garage and tools are always available to anyone who is remotely near my neck of the woods in north Georgia and if we cross paths anywhere else I’ll buy you dinner if we’re in town or cook you dinner at camp.

I can't imagine being away from home that long on the road out in the elements. Then having to deal with car troubles too. I think you handled it like a champ!
And agree on the great community here. Hoping to meet some of y'all next week at COTR.
If COTR ever falls within our time off for summer we’d really like to make that, we really need to work on our social skills and that looks like a good time to do that.
Glad to see you made it home safe @Artie! Good to know my torque wrench and brake installation skills worked for ya. Glad you had a good trip, too bad about the timing with all the rain and then biblical heat. Regardless, I hope Montana was everything you hoped for.
Got out to a lake that's been on my list for ages. Fun little run, good day with the family. This trail is such a good time for a day trip, not too far and not too challenging, but not boring either. And the views are next-level.
The last time I attempted this run was in my 2005 Nissan Frontier. I cannot overstate how much of a difference there is wheeling the Land Cruiser vs that Frontier. It's a whole different league of vehicle.
I'm continually shocked at how much I can get away with.

Montana will be getting repeat visits from us and hopefully they will be repair and drama free. We’re already talking about it.
