Thanks Slee Offroad. It's Christmas in November

Gave the new tires a little test in the sand.. Any excuse to get into the soft stuff.

(when i switched on the canon I realized it wasn't charged or would've gotten better photos.)

No lift yet. What you see is absolutely stock.

These are 17" rock warrior wheels with 285/70/r17 BFG KO2s.

Absolutely no rubbing, even with full articulation and full turn.
running them at 40psi, and they ride quietly...handle well...and will be adequate after I lift it next month.

I would have normally waited until the lift, but I I had to replace tires immediately...and these have worked out extremely well.

Had I lifted it already, I likely would have gone with a more aggressive tire such as Nitto Trail Grappler, but I was concerned about rubbing prior to lift or without modified upper control arms.

If you are interested in a tire/wheel upgrade WITHOUT a lift? I highly recommend this combo. You will not be disappointed.

Markusson

PS. The only minor difference from stock (besides wheels) is the removal of those pesky running boards. Other than that, this is straight stock.

PPS. Here is a before & after photo to help you see exactly what you get...

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. I just ordered the OME BP-51s today so should I plan to go with a slightly larger tire than you have? I was thinking about the Nitto G2 in a 285-75-17. Thanks again for the pictures.

I'm no authority on 200 fitment (built up a 100, but just starting with 200), but assuming you also ordered upper control arms with your 51's, you should be able to fit up to 33.5" tires without an issue.

Others here will hopefully chime in... but I personally feel that unless you are willing to deal with gear ratio changes (or loss of power without it), most will be better served by sticking with 33's.

There are others here with far more experience with 200 builds who can offer advice...

the 5.7 is a beast....it just flat out scoots no matter how its outfitted.
Only time I've had the tranny searching / switching gears was in the mountains of Colorado. And then I remembered my shifter. Gears and the labor are $$$$. And if you do go that route then you might as well crunch the numbers on lockers F/R since you will have it on the operating table. Adds up quick for something that may or may not benefit you depending on where you roam. If I lost power going bigger I cannot remember what it use to feel like.......AND ..."thats what she said"

In my 200...bumping up even to 33's has meant that at highway speeds, I have to hit about 80 before it wants to stay in overdrive... So in this way...it's definitely had a noticeable impact. Performance in general has been fine. Just notice it when cruising at highway speeds.

I do agree about the "beast" comment. WOW. The 200's 5.7 has SO much more power than my old 100. It's incredibly obvious. Just gobs of acceleration, torque and general "grunt." Going from 235hp to 381...is pretty huge.

I do plan to order the Upper control arms from slee with the bp-51s. Is the 285-75-17 considered a 33.5 inch tire? If I'm going to lose a lot of highway cruising capability I think I should probably size down. What is the best tire size to not affect highway performance in a big way? I don't plan to do lockers and gears for another year or so.

thanks

I don't mean to imply a huge problem. I'm EXTREMELY HAPPY with my 285/70/17s. If I could tweak my shift points a bit...I would, but no way in heck would I undo the change. My tires aren't truly 33's. They are about 32.7 or 32.8... And the truth? If I felt confident 33.5 would fit right now, I'd have done that. As Willy said...the 5.7 is a BEAST and launches you even with bigger tires.

I'm curious about model year differences... Mine is na 08

When I do the lift, I won't hesitate to go 33.5.

Again though... Other's here have more 200 experience than me. I'm familiar with my 100 build...but this 200 is a work in progress, and I'm only noting subtle differences at highway speeds.

There are a few on here that run the 285/75/17 tire size. The only down side may be the limited number of tire selections in this size. I have the Toyo ATIIs and love them. over 50 and you can hear a some hummm, and they are heavy! but the engine pulls like crazy and doesn't complain about the size, the brakes will need attention though. Either swap to tundra brakes if you will be doing a lot of towing/mountain driving, or just install stainless braided lines to firm up the stock brakes. I wouldn't go to any other size. these seem to have the best width for clearing the wheel wells and great height.

just my .02$

if i can ever find a 5th rock warrior, i'll let you know...

I think I have decided to try the 275-75-17 and see how it goes. I should have all the parts within a week so I will update y'all on the progress of the BP-51s and the 33's

Some tire shops are willing to mount them, and see... Discount tire offered to do that when I bought my set recently. I was sure they'd fit...but THEY weren't...and he said he'd be "happy to try it and see..." Of course they fit...but it let me know that they were willing.

@T4Runner I asked 619TOY and he said the 286/75 fit after removing the brace for the factory spare.
