Why remove it? A magnet holds it up out of the way. I never even noticed it until I had to pull it down one day.
I guess ill have to examine it more closely. I thought its the rear part of the belt for the middle person in the 3rd row. if I remove the seat, the belt is retracting into the roof. let me look at it again. tks

Yes, it is retracted into the roof. It stays up there, doesn’t hang down or rattle. Seems like a lot of effort to remove it and I don’t see the point. But perhaps you have a reason for wanting to remove it that you haven’t mentioned, which is why I asked.

I think the hole left behind if you remove it will look worse than just leaving it as is. And you risk damaging the headliner if you yank it down to remove it. I vote you tuck it in and ignore it, that's what I've done.

Thanks all. I didn’t look closely enough the 1st time or 2...... Didn’t realize the belt latch had a release. All makes sense now. And now I know what the plastic molding in the roof is for:)

Appreciate the help.

may be off-topic, but has anyone used the weather teach rear cargo liner for the 2021 "5 passenger" Land Cruiser/LX570? Will this cover the holes on the floor for my 2010 LX570? I would assume this is like buying the OEM heritage model carpet, right?

I could 3d print some covers but I'd have to model it up first (terrible at that). Has anyone made anything custom that could be 3D scanned?

Turns out new iPhones and iPads can model it with lidar. Do you know whether something like that couple be used?

Removing the ceiling mounted seatbelt isn't too bad, but it doesn't really gain you much.

Some thoughts:
  • Watch out for the black goo with a greasy consistency around the hatch seal (your rig might not have it, but a couple of us have noted it)
  • You need to be careful when removing the plastic trim because there are tabs and clips that can damage the headliner if not removed in the correct order.
  • The 14mm bolt that holds the inertia reel is a little finicky to get to, but a flex head ratcheting spanner is helpful.
  • You'll want to make sure there is as much room as possible to remove the inertia reel without damaging the head liner.
  • Be careful what if anything you unplug (and make sure you re-plug any remaining connectors) - you can make it so the radio doesn't pick up any channels by forgetting a single connector in that area.

Since there has not been any movement on the plugs I'll ask for tips on what I need to do to fabricate one. I have seen info of using the LIDAR on my iPhone and have thought about creating my own mold by adding a backing underneath the panel. Assuming I can get something it could be scanned, cleaned up and then printed. I am out of my lane on this so any help/ideas will be appreciated.

If I knew the Heritage panels would fit they would already be installed because it's easy and I'll never have a use for the 3rd row and prefer the extra space. My '02's were pulled on day 1 and are collecting dust in the basement. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I did this for my 2018 Land Cruiser. I left the carpet mat down underneath it for some soundproofing. After removing the 3rd row seats and going down some sandy, dusty roads, I noticed some intrusion of dust getting in through the bolt holes in the flooring. I simply covered with Gorilla tape. It suits my needs, but I wish it covered the wheel wells.

You can also avoid the dust intrusion by reinstalling the bolts.
